Bon Voyage to Janet and Jim. Cambridge awaits, happy exploring.

Happy Travels to Laurie, Frank and girls. I hope your flight is uneventful. Remember when the MIL gets too much....come to GR and vent.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jBsPZV14I-k

Janet, it should be bitter orange marmalade instead of apricot preserves....and only a thin layer. Do you like PB & J? I think this is just a kicked up version. I, too, am willing to give it a try.
Sorry the mosquitoes chased you indoors. Glad you had a good day...sorry the cream puffs failed but good recovery on your part.

Marie, that pizza sounds so good. You must be proud of Rick's business, you are so busy all the time. I hope you have a quiet restful weekend. Can you believe the price of ground turkey? 4.99 a lb. here, yikes.

Karen, same wishes for you....I hope you have a bit of rest from the chores. How is Wayne's leg by the way? Has he healed completely? My daughter learned to drive a tractor with her godfather Bruce. He passed away in May. I still have the pictures of her at 12 learning to drive the stick shift with Bruce by her side. She only took out one wild blueberry bush. He didn't yell. He was a good man.

Joce, do you have plans this lovely weekend? How are the crowds in town? How are you feeling?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8jEapecSqc
Hopefully you'll know when you'll be back again!

Oh, Dinner tonight....we will be going out on Rick's gift. Jack's London Grill or QT's Crawfish Boil are two choices, of course subject to change due to Fred's mercurial food preference.

It is 8:15 A.M. and both indoor cats are rolling around in a mock fight. A.C. is primed - we spent time in the sun room and he hates being left behind. Geezer is sitting on the window sill staring inside so I see that he is indeed famished, He thinks I should rise and feed him. I have news for him - he will have to wait. Geezer is the one who showed up years ago with a severe neck wound. He must be about 12 or so.

Ah, coffee is ready. Laundry is going so I have no guilt feelings about enjoying a cup. Sigh. Benefits of retiring.

Janet - have a great trip. Enjoy every minute. It sounds wonderful.

Tina - it sounds like your meds are still not adjusted. Hope you find the right balance for you. Sometimes that is a bit tricky.

Wayne couldn't take percocet (? spelling) - he was loopy and no balance. He'd crash into the side of a doorway when walking through it. I have no problem with any codeine, real or synthetic, since I simply can't keep it down - no problem, I just don't ever use the stuff. LOL.

Cool on your daughter learning to drive a tractor. Our 21 yo grandson, Sean, was allowed to drive the tractor with Wayne standing beside him. He is not ready to solo and not familiar with the clutch. Ha ha. He is definitely a city dude. His mom has him convinced he MUST be allergic to wasps and he freaks out when one flies by. But he is a good worker. I don't do stick shifts - "my" tractor (translate, the smaller one) is hydrostatic so I am reasonably comfortable with it. Our daughter would drive his in a heartbeat. She likes a manual transmission. My opinion is that stick shifts are figments of the imagination so I prefer to live in the world of reality and only drive automatics. LOL.

Wayne is getting anxious to go order the roofing for his tool shed so I guess I better get moving. He offered to get breakfast on the way but I think I best decline and eat a lower calorie option at home. The weight I picked up traveling is still here - ha ha - and I HAVE to drop it before we go to Ohio.

    Take care all.

Good morning Tina:) Your dinner out sounds lovely..you actually have a restaurant that serves crawfish? Wow, would Rick love that:)
    That is pretty cool! Kaleifornia!
Yes, I am very proud and sometimes amazed the business has taken off..it's been about 4 years since we started it..and I count my blessings..I'm sure it mainly due to his reputation..word of mouth is the best advertisement up here for sure:) Also advertising in the Yellow Pages both online and in the phone book helps.
I know, the grd turkey has been $4.98 lb here for quite a while! Sometimes they have it on sale for $3.98, but not very often:)

Have a wonderful time Janet & Jim!!!! (I am so jealous:)

    Dinner will be determined later:)

    Happy Saturday!

Karen, I love the name 'Geezer'. So happy he has found a furever home. Wayne sounds like Fred back in the day. Fred lived at the home improvement store when he worked. The workers knew him by name. He always had a project...and unfortunately he never finished one.

Marie, the Kaleifornia was just for you!!! The Cauliflower is a poke for Janet. I bought a bunch of baby kale and plan to make something out of it. Not sure yet.

Haven't heard from the kid. I'm sure they are in full prep mode for the wedding and reception today. The guest list was originally 45 and it has expanded to 100. Scotty and Liv are going to be one busy catering team. It is on the water in Gatlinburg. And yes, to Janet's question...Gatlinburg is not far from Sweetwater where Lori lives. About the same distance, an hour and 45 minutes, as Franklin NC. Liv has not been able to reach Lynda. It was chemo week and if she feels bad, she won't answer the phone. So she must be feeling under the weather and is resting.

Re: my drugs....six weeks ago, I had 7 meds to take daily. I now have 14. I am in constant pain and even if I take the meds as directed, I still hurt and then I'm a loopy mess. The endocrinologist just ordered a higher dose of thyroid, apparently the thyroid is not functioning well.

Fred is off to get the beard trim. He was coming close to looking like Grizzly Adams.

SP Karen! I am also doing laundry and having a cup of french roast..everyone else is sleeping this cool (not for long) morning:) Even though you're retired, look how busy you are all of the time! Even weekends! I keep saying I need to go back to work to get some rest.hahaha:)
Aren't kitty's fun in the morning? Why do you think I'm up at 5:00 every day! These 3 are c-r-a-z-y:)

Tina, I just KNEW the Kaleifornia was for me!!! Wow, on Liv catering a wedding reception for 100..that's a lot of work..
Wow on your meds...I would imagine you would be a bit loopy...gosh, I sure wish you didn't have to go thru all of this...why are you still in pain? Does your Dr know? :(

My rheumatologist told me to go to the ER and let them do more testing to figure it out. Gee thanks. And the nurse practitioner wants me to see a pain management doctor to see if they can help. I don't know what is causing it. I'm at a loss.

Kitty play in the morning is a lot of fun. I miss my Smokey and Muffin. However, Lola and Molly are quite fun to watch. Lola in addition to nibbling on my nails has now begun a new irritating habit. She takes her tiny kibble out of her dish, drops it on the floor and eats it one piece at a time. Good grief, I have a household of peculiar pets.

Tell Rick that there are 2 restaurants dedicated to crawfish boils. We used to have a third, that on Wednesday nights had an all-you-can-eat crawfish. They made them so incredibly spicy you could hardly eat a basket. Kind of a rip-off unless you had a cast iron stomach to handle the heat. Sadly, they went out of business, they tried to open in a section of town that was in a down turn....now it is the hottest area in town. Owning a restaurant is not for the faint of heart, or those with limited funds.

Liv and Scotty are absolutely working like fiends this morning. I am praying it goes well for the both of them. I know grilled lobster with saffron butter and petite filet mignon with bearnaise is on the menu. Liv is bartending and directing the passed appetizers.

Grizzly just called and he is on the hunt for a barber. His regular place is closed. Oh no!

LOL @ your thread pics. :) LOL @ poking me with the cauliflower. I too thought of Marie as soon as I saw the Kale pic. Take care of all those meds eh. Wow on Scotty and Liv's menu. To die for!
HAVE A WONDERFUL VACATION LAURIE! Take some pics to show us after!

Might do some sort of grilled boneless chicken thigh on the BBQ for dinner with some dumplings on the side.

Yeah! Grizzly is no longer grizzled. I can see Fred again. All that beard was quite scary. Of course, he made a comment about my trailer park roots and chronic bed head.
    Still debating our supper choices.

Grilled chicken sounds wonderful, Janet. I'm impressed that you can whip out dumplings for supper. That would take me all day. Oh, I did make kimchee soup with pressed roasted tofu, Fred tried a bite and said, "No". It wasn't as spongy as I thought and it did pick up the spice quite nicely.

I cheated on the dumplings Tina. Had some home made ones in the freezer. :) I've been seeing more and more Kimchi soups....gotta try that soon.

Tina, I know that loopy feeling all too well and I try not to take too many pills. Morphine and many drugs don't even touch my pains, they just make me itchy and make me feel very bizarre! Almost like “Alice Through The Looking Glass”. I wonder sometimes and I have never asked? If Allergists can test for drug reactions? Then we would not be used as Guinea Pigs for that! I truly hope the doctors and specialists can finally find and fix the source of all your pains and health problems once and for all! It must be more than frustrating for you! Very nice of Rick to send you such a nice anniversary gift:) I would order Fish n' Chips at Jack London's Grill just, b/c Frankie made the Beer Batter Fish And Chips in IMI and it looks to die for! http://www.jackslondongrill.com/jlg/our-menu/ Oh Me Oh My! QT's Crawfish looks more than amazing as well! http://www.yelp.ca/biz/qt-crawfish-restaurant-pinellas-park-2
LOL Now I can't decide! Let us know where you decide to go. LOL I just knew the cauliflower was for Janet and the Kaleifornia was for Marie:) Sending “Magnificent Succulent Catering Vibes” to Liv and Scotty too!

Marie, Ground turkey or chicken is about the same price here! Everything seems to be going up and up in the grocery dept. these days! I don't know how large families manage do it?

Karen, LOL @ stick shifts being a figment of the imagination:) You really tickled my funny bone with that:) I am like your daughter, I don't mind stick shifts and clutches at all!

Janet, Do you know what went wrong with the puffs you made yesterday? The reason why I ask is, b/c I printed that recipe out yesterday. Is there anything wrong with the instructions possibly? I don't want to try it just to let it go to waste. I figured I would ask just in case. Wishing you and Jim safe comfortable efficient travels:)

Laurie, Have fun on your vacation with the girls and Frank. LOL You will survive:)

We both slept in very late today and it has put us both off kilter! Den went and did the shopping and when he came home I had just got up! Now it is past one and it feels like 10.00 AM to me! I was up and down all night so maybe that is the reason I finally slept in? Den is having his normal cheeseburgers and fries for dinner. I have a big craving for a bacon and tomato sandwich and a bowl of Dynamite Garlic Soup maybe I will have that for lunch? Then I will think on what I am going to have for dinner? I am feeling discombobulated possibly the drugs I am on, are doing that?

Such a perfect title for the thread today, Tina! Plus all the appropriate Youtubes:)

    Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

Kimchi soup would not work here. Wayne hates the smell of kinchi and the only time I eat it is at the Korean restaurant we like.

Ordered the roofing and stopped at a stand where they had corncob jelly. I bought one to try. Also bought canning lids so I can get started on canning jellies. First I have to empty the DW, get my canning jars and run them through after storage on the dusty back porch, then store them in keepers until I use them. Thought about making watermelon jelly if I can find a good recipe.

I have noticed homemade jellies at small farm stands seem to be canned without setting like I want. Is the pectin different? Some recipe reviewers state they doubled the pectin in order have it set. I'm not surprised if pectin standards are lower than previously, not too trusting of commercial companies any more. Guess I will have to try and see how it goes.

If I don't get off this laptop and get to work it will be December before I can do any canning. LOL. Naturally, I would be limited to making wine jelly at that time of year. Which is very good and you can vary it according to the kind of wine you like.

Bye. It is off to the kitchen.

Karen, can I be your neighbor? I love canning. Lynda and I have had some great successes and some failures in jelly/jam making. One 24 jar batch of fresh blueberries all had chunks of crystallized sugar. We both knew we had melted the sugar and stirred and stirred but the jam was a mess. Liv was quite unhappy since she was our picker. I do use pectin when making sherbet at home.

Joce, Fred is convinced I'm being over-medicated. I have become increasingly disabled the longer I take the medication. Again, like you, no relief on the pain. I'm so dizzy today I nearly took another header into the tub. I don't want more bruised ribs, it is hard enough to breathe as it is. If I could draw a deep breath without pain, it would be wonderful. Wishing you well and less confusion as you fully awaken!! You probably needed the sleep. So take it easy on yourself.

I can smell my goofy sandwich in the pan, time to flip.

Hi Joce! The recipe for the puffs is fine. It's just my mind that was a little wrong. :) When it came time for me to 'beat' the eggs in I couldn't remember if I just did it by hand or used a mixer. So I pulled out my mixer and as soon as I started the pastry changed consistency and went into a big wet ball and I knew I'd done a bad thing. Use a fork to mix by hand so the pastry remains thick and you can drop it out by tablespoonful onto your cookie sheet. They're really good. I would like both a burger and fries and soup and a B&T sandwich please. :) Actually we just finished eating Bacon and Tomato sandwiches for our lunch. Yummy. Didn't have any good Garlic soup to go with it though.
Corncob Jelly? Well you learn something every day. And just what would a person serve Corncob Jelly on or beside Karen? I love canning too.
I'm sleepy. Like really sleepy. I've almost got the house back under control and the laundry caught up and I'm almost finished packing. But boy could I use a nap. Not going to do it though. Need to try sleep on that darned plane tonight. :)
Tina, when's your next appointment that you could relay your medication concerns to your Dr.?

I have an appointment on Tuesday, then on Aug. 18th with the neurologist, Aug. 29th with the pulmonary doctor and 9/3/14 with the sleep disorder doctor. Endocrinologist is six weeks out, Rheumatologist is six weeks from now. I put all my meds into an interaction md site on the web and 5 of them (which I take now, some in increased dosages since last week) can cause serotonin syndrome. The drug interaction of them can result in a risk of a rare but serious condition called the serotonin syndrome, which may include symptoms such as confusion, hallucination, seizure, extreme changes in blood pressure, increased heart rate, fever, excessive sweating, shivering or shaking, blurred vision, muscle spasm or stiffness, tremor, incoordination, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Severe cases may result in coma and even death. Now I know not to believe all that I read on the internet but since I have many of these symptoms plus a few others, I have to believe it could be a drug interaction.

Corncob jelly is very interesting. Maybe another one of those you serve over cream cheese with crackers.

Janet, I hope you can sleep on the plane and regroup from all the rush of the last few days. Are you planning to stop into Jamie Oliver's this trip?

FA is back and in fine form. She made a great fish and chips over in IMI. If I deep fried at home, I would be giving it a whirl.

Fred has determined we are heading to Gulf Boulevard, the Boulevard of Gastronomic Dreams. That moniker is from my fellow blogger, Jon. He is the SOG City Oracle editor and beloved husband of the Belle of Ballast Point. They eat out more than any couple I know. They are a great couple and I love reading his reviews. Anyway, Fred was swayed by Jon's postings to chose another destination for us, either Cafe Luna or MadFish.
    http://www.madfishonline.com/pdf/dinner-menu.pdf
    http://www.cafelunabistro.com/our_menu.php

So, in the last fifteen minutes, Fred has determined that I could hit the deck unceremoniously. We are staying home. I'm far too unsteady to navigate. When you yell in pain when trying to stand and cry because you can't wash your own hair, too weak to lift my arms over my head....we are cancelling dinner plans.

I pulled some spaghetti sauce from the freezer and he is going to boil the noodles. Last time I made spaghetti, I poured the hot water down my tummy instead of in the sink. I am a ball of silly putty.

Tina, Some drug allergic reactions do indicate shortness of breath making it hard and painful to breath and also dizziness and problems with balance. I would question all that when you are in the doctor's office or sooner.
HOLY MAKEREL TINA! I know we aren't supposed do the internet search thing, but my doctor said the Mayo Clinic was O.K. or Merck Manual too! I would at lest contact a Pharmacist or someone like that! LOL Now you have me going on the Mad Fish Menu:) The Twin Tails with extra Crab meat asparagus and hollandaise sauce has my name on it:) At The Cafe Luna Bistro are those the Crab Cakes you raved and raved about before? If you I would definitely have them:) Enjoy your anniversary dinner:) Do you have to make reservations?

Karen, I haven't canned anything in years! I used to make jams, jellies, pickles etc. and added them as nice little homemade gifts to Christmas presents etc. I wish I felt as industrious as you. I have never heard of Corn Cob Jelly? Let us know what you think about it.

Janet, Thanks:) I want to make up a few batches of little puffs out of that recipe. I have a luncheon bd party at my GF's next week. I thought I would fill them with several different things such as egg salad, salmon, ham salad and crab etc. as little appetizer sort of things. I think they would look great on a tray and would be good to travel that way. I still have to think of a little dessert things to bring and I am leaning towards Coconut Cream Pie Bites and making different kinds and adaptions of it as well. Lemon would work I think? Maybe chocolate with a strawberry on top with chocolate shavings too? Luisa has such cute yummy little ideas:) These are cute little bites too!

Tina : you are not the first person I have heard mention problems with multiple medicines / too many / interactions. At one time my Dad was on 25 pills. (My brother, a doctor, checked on his prescriptions just to make me feel better, but he did not live close enough to monitor him.) It is NOT normal / good to have all the problems you mention. I'm NOT a PROFESSIONAL so don't take my word on anything. But multiple RXs from multiple sources scare me. Please have the combination checked by your doctor Tuesday like Janet suggested. Scream, rant, rave, holler, beg, whatever it takes until he/she does check it out. O.K. - whew - done. Mother Karen is now off her soapbox.

For the moment we will have to be virtual neighbors- ha ha! You might be better off visiting this part of the country before you decide to give up your city life. It is an acquired taste.

I found a recipe for green pepper jelly similar to the one I have used before. It probably needs more pectin than called for. I will add a couple of jalapeno peppers to give it some zing, not enough to make it hot. Canning jars are clean, so I need to remove from DW and store them until ready to sterilize and use. I always do a water bath for at least 10 minutes just in case even if not called for - probably overkill but it seems the better thing to do.

Ah - corncob jelly is great on cream cheese. It is wonderful on crackers. It is probably good as a PB & J. I will let you know the end result. Found a recipe for dandelion jam that only uses the flower and tastes like honey - I will have to try it in the spring if I can sneak around filching dandelions from yards not sprayed with chemicals. LOL. Wayne is not thrilled with the thought of a zillion dandelions in our yard just so I can try the recipe. Ha ha. It is supposed to taste like honey, or so they say.

A.C. is happy. Wayne just came in from chores. The cat followed him all over, meowing up a storm. When his rough play attempt was rebuffed, he left Wayne's chair and pounced on Mel. Mel is not thrilled with the whole idea.

Have a good dinner tonight and enjoy the seafood ala Jon the blogger's recommendation.

Janet - I would LOVE to stop by Jamie Oliver's. A more realistic possibility is Morimoto's in Philadelphia either this fall or maybe next year. It is on my bucket list.

I didn't can last year at all. I am getting back into the swing of it now that I am retired. At least starting to, now that the indoor projects are almost done. It does do in my back so I have to be careful how to go about it.
