Saturday Storm Watch

  • MissouriFarmWife 6 years ago
    Good morning.

The weather forecast has changed for the worse. They are calling for possible.grapefruit size hail iin some areas of the Ozarks and warning of possibllity of severe thunderstorms. Fritz must sense an atmospheric change because he reacts to every sound. A bird hit the truck windshield on the way home last night and he shook for five minutes. A louder than normal sonic boom sent him into violent trembling.

I am hoping it all goes away. Wayne wants to go to an auction, but he is talking about only going for part of it now. The fog is increasing and I hope he changes his mind.

Home phone is out, probably bec of the lightning strike that zapped the well house. An alarm of some sort keeps beeping every so often and I can't track it down.

I guess I better get something productive done. See you later, if the Internet stays with us.

    Good Morning Everyone.

Your weather sounds absolutely frightening Karen. I bet poor Fritz is terrified. How do the other animals behave? Does it bother the chickens, horses, cats? I do hope the prediction turns out to be far less than what you are saying.

Too early yet for anything to be going on. I'll go see DH later this afternoon. Need to get some things done around the house today and tomorrow. I don't want to get too far behind in the ever accumulating paperwork of things to be filed, sorted, etc.

GRAPEFRUIT SIZED HAIL Karen? I didn't know they went that big!! Holy Kamoly! Take good care and hoping the storm passes you by. Ugh on the alarm. Noises like that drive me bonkers. Could it be a smoke detector or something that needs to be reset?

Morning Linda. Hope you have a nice visit with your DH this afternoon and good luck with all the things that you'd like to accomplish.

Jim and I really enjoyed the play last night and got home around 11. Never feel like going straight to bed after we've been out so we stayed up and then I didn't go to bed 'til 1 a.m. which is very unlike me. Managed to sleep 'til almost 9 a.m. so am glad of that. :) Must get moving shortly. I've had my coffee and I'll fix Jim and I some breakfast.

We're contemplating going to a Lilac Festival in Franktown and I may stop in to see the Carp Farmer's Market as well. Gorgeous sunny day this morning so that is lovely.

No clue about dinner yet. BBQ steak sounds easy and tempting and I do have some asparagus in the crisper.

I see on FB that Laurie has landed in the Bahamas. Lucky girl.

    Wishing everyone a great day.

Goodness gracious Karen, I've never heard of grapefruit size hail. I hope that it goes around you. Poor wee Fritz is terrified. Have you considered a Thunder Shirt? Hopefully Wayne will stay at home as driving in fog is dangerous.

Paperwork never goes away Linda and staying on top of it wears me out. I hope that your visit goes well.

I'm the same way, Janet, can't go to bed after being out. The lilacs are blooming here as are the apple trees and it smells wonderful. I've always wanted to go to the Carp market and should do that soon.

Heading out to the cottage shortly and probably won't be back on today. We'll take up some supplies that we'll need. If things go really well we may get the water in today.

    Have a great day everyone!!

Yikes on the hail stones that big, Karen. I hope the storm passes by you. Hailstones that big can do so much damage! Poor Fritz! Is it your fridge possibly that needs to be reset after being zapped by lightening. Den is really good at tracking down beeping sounds. Me not so well as I am hard of hearing.
Glad you enjoyed the play last night, Janet. Have a fun jaunt today. Laurie is in Jamaica. They are staying at their normal place Sandals and I think after this trip the next one is free. BBQed steak and asparagus sounds great to me.
Camden had a good night and they did an update this morning. She is a little trooper for sure. Now she is basically adjusting to her new heart. Den did the grocery shopping this morning and is now out mowing the front lawn. Then he is going to put mulch down in the backyard and hopefully dig up some hostas which are getting too big and growing over the walkway. They really need to be thinned out. Den will have cheeseburgers and oven fries for dinner and I am having Icelandic Cod for dinner at the moment I don't know what sides I am having with yet.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Wonderful to hear baby Camden is doing well Joce. YOU GO BABY CAMDEN!! Everyday is another day to get stronger.

Glad you enjoyed the play Janet. I too stayed up too late last night, past midnight, not sure why, just had a lot to do and then when I did settle down it took some time to "unwind". If you do go the lilac festival enjoy! Lilacs were one of my mom's favorites, that and pussywillows.

Paperwork wears me out too Bren. I keep saying ... when did everything get so complicated? Hope your trip to the cottage goes well. I guess you are opening it up for the season?

I too have no idea what I'll make for dinner. Perhaps fish as it is the easiest to thaw when I get home.

Good afternoon!! Holy cow on the hail Karen, stay safe and park your cars in your garage!! Poor Fritz :(

Hi Linda, good luck with the filing, hope you can get it done quick :)

Glad you enjoyed the play Janet. You’re like me, when we have late games or something, I always have trouble falling asleep as my brain is still running on high. Michael on the other hand can fall asleep as soon as his head hits the pillow no matter what time. Men! The Lilac Festival sounds fun! Wow, y’all have so much to do around you. BBQ steak sounds easy enough!

Lucky you on the apple trees Bren! I bet they smell and look beautiful right now :)

So glad to hear Camden is doing well Joce, that’s great!! Sounds like Den will be busy outside today, yum on both of your dinners!

Ended up never making Thai Beef Salad so that will be on the menu tonight. Last night Michael and I tried a new place http://www.barlouie.com/menu
We got there early enough for half price beers and half price appy’s and flatbreads. Since we weren’t starving it worked out perfectly and we shared two apps. The Thai Chicken Flatbread and the Bruschetta Pomodoro. The flatbread was SO GOOD! The bruschetta, not so much. I wish I would have read the description better because there was no balsamic in it, which left it tasting flat to me. Also the tomatoes weren’t of greatest quality, which is strange with it being tomato season?! Anyway, I would try it again, just not order the bruschetta lol.

After that we went to play pool. Played about 10 games haha. Slept until 10am today, which I’m not happy with because now I’ll never go to sleep tonight :( We are thinking about going to the movies, but there really isn’t anything that appealing on. Maybe the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie? I just want the popcorn honestly :P :P Also there is the movie called “Everything, Everything” that Bri really want’s to see and I was thinking about taking her when she get’s back from my Mom’s next week, but it’s PG-13 and after reading the reviews, there is a lot of sex talk and content, so I don’t think I’ll be letting her watch that anytime soon. Michael wants to see “Gaurdians of the Galaxy” but I said no way, if he wants to see that, he can go by himself haha. Popcorn isn’t even worth it for me sitting through that.

Hope everyone has a great Saturday!!

    Hi.
We bought too much at the auction. I got a table for my sewing machine, it came with an older Singer but I will change it out and give it to daughter.

Electric is off. Internet is out. Wind is bad. Top of persimmon tree just blew off in the yard. Daughter is in shelter. 70 mph winds. Severe thunderstorm is clobbering us big time. I have not seen it this bad ever. Fritz is in his crate, shaking. I will get him a thunder shirt as soon as we can.

Good afternoon and hello to all. Wow Karen that's some storm! Stay safe!! Poor Fritz! Yes, I'm sure a thunder shirt would be good. A lilac festival sound wonderful!! One of my favorites! Hope the paperwork and filing is done Linda and that your visit with hubs went well. Hope your trip to the cottage went well Bren. So so glad to hear little Camden is doing well. Continued gentle cyber hugs and prayers. Haven't played pool in ages! Sounds like you and Michael had a nice night out.

Had a delightful lunch out today at Longhorns with 4 other girlfriends. We all hadn't seen each other in a while so it was nice to catch up. I had wild west shrimp and a loaded baked potato. Still stuffed! Brought home the rest of the shrimp for hubs. He was very appreciative as he was poking around in the fridge for something to eat when I got home, lol.
Not sure what dinner plans are yet. Need to do a head count but boys aren't here to ask if they will be home or not. Wanted to go out to a pizzeria tonight but don't think that will happen. Did a few errands after lunch and really don't feel like going back out now. We went to a place called the Mellow Mushroom http://mellowmushroom.com/corpmenu in St. Augustine last weekend. Their pizza is amazing! Discovered we have one here not that far away so thought about going tonight. But hey, another night.

Enjoy the rest of Saturday all!

Storm is over! We are on the edge of clearing. Golf ball sized hail missed us. Wayne texted daughter that the RV was still on its wheels and trees were upright....she did not appreciate the humor.

More is to blow up later so this may be the first of many. Electricity is out but generator is running. So we are comfortable and all is well.

There were lots of areas that had hail, none as large as they predicted. They are still predicting extra large hail and advising people there to be careful. Hope the grapefruit size stuff leaves us alone.

Wayne is calling to check on our neighbor. No answer. Will wait till it is completely over and take the Gator to check on them.

So nice to check on the neighbor Karen. Gee..........sounds like our hurricane days down here! I used to be so scared of the storms here in Florida when I first moved down some 30 years ago. Coming from Michigan I never, ever saw a sky so black before! And we had our share of tornados up there! But did get used to it. Still scary none the less!

Oh and the wind here. Just this week we had a wind storm that finished off my gazebo roof! It was dry rotted anyway but still to see a major piece just fly off! Have ordered a new roof canvas that should last at least 2 years in our heat.

Visit with DH was nice today. He was so appreciative to get OUT! and about. I took him to the grocery store so he could buy snacks and personal care items. Then he saw a CVS and wanted to run in so we did. Then from there, in the same shopping center I noticed a sign for an Italian restaurant that we had went to a couple times about a year or so ago so we dropped the groceries off and then went back out for dinner. The food is fabulous, homemade and "oh so good". DH had chicken parm and I had lasagna and we shared. Had a white chocolate tira-mi-su for dessert. It was so good for him to be out. I told him every Saturday will be our "date" day to go out and do something. Sunday I'll bring LD for his visit. Not sure yet how the week will play out as I'm waiting to get therapy schedules in place.

I loved Guardians of the Galaxy Michelle, not sure if I'll see #2 at the theater or not but just may for something to do with DH. Sounds though like you are enjoying your "kid free" time.

Considering Karen you are lucky to not be bearing the brunt of your storms. Hope it stays that way too.

How is little Chloe Kimmer? Is she growing some or still a wee little girl?

    Hi all.

Second storm racing thru but not so bad. Nickle size hail. At least two trees fell on power line so we can not get out, stranded....ha ha. Expect another series. Tornado warnings canceled here but new ones popping up. I put a couple pictures on FB.

Glad your DH had a good day Linda.

Hi to everyone else. Internet still on but could go out with storms.

Neighbors are okay. Phone service all over is out. Daughters work was hit by possible tornado and doors forced open. Power out. She may.not be able to work tomorrow.

You should honestly make a point of heading out to the Carp Farmer's Market some Saturday Bren. It's a really awesome little Market with A LOT of booths. It's a bit early yet for any decent amount of fresh veggies but it won't be long. Hope you had a good time at the cottage and got the water back on. You had a great day weather wise for it!

Oops on putting Laurie in the Bahamas when she's actually in Jamaica. LOL. Thanks Joce for straightening that out. That's wonderful that Camden continues to do so well. Most encouraging! Den got the perfect day for mowing and mulching. I need to mow our lawn again badly but we're heading out on another jaunt tomorrow and then it's supposed to rain Mon. Tues and Wed. I think! I have a girlfriend coming out for lunch on Thursday so I wanted the place to look good. I may get a chance to get some of it done tomorrow morning before we head out. What are you going to do with the hostas Den thinned? Put them elsewhere in your yard? I think Jim and I made a big fat mistake with what we planted in our new rock garden in front of the house. Tulips and hostas, the deer's two top favourite foods! Ai yi yi. YUMMY on Icelandic Cod. Enjoy! Do you like tartar sauce?

I love pussy willows as well Linda. So springy!

Your dinner out with Michael last night sounded lovely Michelle. I checked out the link. I'd like to try the Buffalo chicken flatbread and the Verde chicken flatbread too! Their Sesame Chicken lettuce wraps looked yummy as well. A shame the Bruschetta sucked. I tend never to order that in restaurants for that reason. I never like it as much as the one I make at home. Jim and I went to a Pub for late lunch/dinner this afternoon and he too was eyeing up the bruschetta until I told him to read the description carefully as they put feta garlic cream cheese on it and Jim is not a cream cheese fan at all. Oh dear at thinking you may not sleep well tonight. I adore Johnny Depp and I adore pirates and the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. :) LOL @ I just want the popcorn honestly. LOL. I've not heard of the "Everything, Everything" movie.

Oh dear at your electricity and internet being down Karen. Sounds like you had fun at the auction. Scary that your daughter is at a shelter but obviously not as scary as if she weren't I guess. I'm not used to that kind of weather. Poor Fritz! Very cool on having a persimmon tree. You very likely mentioned it before but you know my horrible memory. Do you harvest the persimmons?

Posted before I lost it. :)

Your lunch out with friends sounded so nice Kimmer, as did your meal. What a great name for a pizzeria. "The Mellow Mushroom". I love it . I checked out the link. They have equally great names for their pizzas too. "The Magical Mystery Tour", "Kosmic Karma". LOLOL. There is a Rib Eye Pie that has my name written all over it: Olive oil and garlic base, all-natural grilled shaved rib eye steak, portobello mushrooms, artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, provolone, feta and mozzarella. Wow! Goodness at your gazebo roof! :(

Sounds like you had a really nice afternoon with your DH Linda. I'm so glad. Your dinner sounds wonderful.

Jim and I had an action packed day. We drove out to Fitzroy Harbour as the library there had book 6 in a Jeffrey Archer series that Jim's been on the wait list for. I have relatives that lived in Fitzroy Harbour from back in the 1800's so we went looking for the graveyard where they were buried and we found them! My 3rd Great Grandparents! So cool. It was lovely. Then we continued on to the Lilac Festival which was amazing. Did a horse drawn wagon ride through a huge expanse of lilac bushes, checked out a craft sale (I bought some lilac soap, very pretty! and a cotton knitted dish cloth with a Canadian flag pattern, checked out the interior of an old, old church and had a lovely conversation with a gentleman from the local History Society. It was a perfect day. Franktown calls itself the Lilac Capital of Ontario and that's all you can smell when you get out of your car. It's wonderful. We missed arriving before 2 so they'd shut down their BBQ's where they were serving burgers and hotdogs so Jim and I did all we wanted to and then went to the Ashton Pub for a late lunch/ early dinner. I had bangers and mash and Jim had Shepherd's Pie. Mine came with awful over cooked vegetables on the side which I didn't touch but his came with a lovely salad with a fantastic balsamic vinagrette on the side and he shared it. :)

Pooped now. Have a great night everyone.
