Skewers on Saturday

  • chuckieb 5 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! It's a bright sunny, albeit cool morning on my end. I'm having a bowl of Quaker Harvest Crunch which is very unlike me. I rarely eat cereal. Had a craving a while ago and bought a box and now I have to make a point to finish it. :)

Jim and I are going to head out to the Farmer's Market shortly and then run some errands. Not looking forward to going in to Costco on a Saturday, but.....:)

Going to make the minced pork skewers for dinner this evening so that'll be a fun project. Wishing everyone a great day!

    Good Morning everyone.

Hope your farmer's market has awesome stuff Janet! If you really don't want your cereal the critters outside would be happy to partake. I wish the cereal manufacturers would make small boxes of "adult" cereal like they do for kids. I love those small box servings but not the cereals themselves because they are the sugar loaded ones for kids. The pork skewers sound yummy!

Tasted the honeys I bought and they are great. What honey isn't? The Killer Bee one is dark and rich and the Neem a little lighter like a dark amber. Both are not as liquidy to drizzle over something so I will use them in hot tea which I usually have a cup of something every night.

It looks like it wants to rain, did yesterday too, but we haven't gotten a drop yet. The bear is out every day around dinner time and putting on a really good show. I haven't seen him yet but then again he's on the other side of the development. FB pics are awesome and people post new ones every day. I took a ride (in the car) with LD to see if I could catch him out but no such luck. He's now looking in people's lanais! Probably sniffing around for something to eat.
Got my paper recipe file box all clean up and organized so that's done. Even cleaned up electronic files while sitting and watching tv. Now to pick something new to make.
Not sure what our plans our today. It's overcast and would make for a great day to go out and walk around someplace. I'll have to see what DH might be in the mood for.

Wow, Janet! I have never heard of you eating cereal! I hope you enjoy it! It will be crazy everywhere just b/c it is nice out, it is a Saturday and Mother's Day is tomorrow. What a combination of things! enjoy your Farmers Market. Our's open as well. I hope your pork skewers turn out well.

Den did the grocery shopping this morning and he isn't back yet6 so that means it is crazy here too! My tennis elbow has been acting up the last few days which doesn't help me at all for working in the garden. I have a heating pad on it plus a gel thing and it still screams. Hopefully, the pain will go away soon. I hope Den brings home MacDonald's for brunch but if it is that crazy out I will pass on it. Going to meet up with my seamstress sometime this afternoon to pick up a jacket and pair of pants she shortened. Other than that I will stay close to my heating pad. Den is having his Cheeseburgers and fries and I am having shrimp with a salad for dinner.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

SP Joce. So sorry to hear your elbow is giving you trouble. Do you know what triggered it? I have a feeling no matter how busy it is out Den will bring home McDs for you. How will you prepare your shrimp? I never know what to do with shrimp other than poach them for shrimp cocktail. I'm not a fan of hot shrimp dishes but for some reason am craving bacon wrapped shrimp. I have some in the freezer that I need to do something with and am thinking that over rice but not sure if I need to marinate the shrimp or not.

That's an awesome idea Linda about the mini boxes of adult cereal. I'd totally buy that. Envying you your lovely honey. How funny that the bear is looking in to the lanai's. Not so funny if it decided to push itself in but....:) Good for you getting your paper files all cleaned up.

Morning Joce! Ouch on your tennis elbow! That's nasty. :( Hope you get some McD's soon too. Both yours and Den's dinners sound yummy for this evening.

    We're heading out!

I changed my avatar to a picture of the bear. The photo was taken by one of the people here.
I too would buy "adult" small boxes of cereal if they would put a nice combination together. Every now and then I too crave a bowl but I don't want the entire box so I don't buy cereal. And worse, DH and I don't like the same cereals so it really doesn't behoove me to buy any for me.

    Good morning.

The birds might like your cereal leftover, Janet.

Cool bear picture, Linda. It seems too be getting more accustomed to people!

Hope you get your McD lunch, Joce, and that your tennis elbow feels better.

It is hot and sunny here. We have to mow before the yard reaches the stage for haying.

Ticks are getting bad. I picked one off AC and he had been treated. Guess we need to try another type to see if the ticks have become resistant. They have called for a bad tick season this year AC is not easy to deal with. Wayne held down his back legs and I held down his head and tried to keep his front claws fron contacting! Got one off of his leg but gave up on the second. They are dead from the medicine from still don’t like one on him. Seed ticks bite Fritz and die ASAP and he was treated also.

Time to Mow before it heats up too bad. See you later.

WOW!! Made this salad and it is fantastic. So much better than the one I buy at the Italian Market for $9/pound. Next time though I'll use regular orzo, I bought tri-colored, so it shows off the rest of the ingredients. Still need to add the Kalamata olives and I'll buy those later today when I go to the grocery store.

Icckk on the ticks already Karen. I hate them! Do your chickens free-roam? They eat ticks and such. Hope you get all your mowing done before it gets too hot. Hmmm, maybe some goats would help. LOL!

The bear is adorable Linda! How cute is that???? :) The Orzo salad is beautiful! I'd try it but I'm not big on artichokes.

Ugh on the ticks Karen. I HATE them. Ugh. Good luck with the mowing.

We haven't made it in to town yet. Had a lovely time at the Farmer's Market. Jim bought himself a new yellow plum tree. He's so excited. :) Then on the way home we stopped in to a little garden center and bought a beautiful copper coloured "Ninebark" bush and a "Super Sonic Weigeila" (sp?). The Weigielia is supposed to bloom the majority of the summer AND it's deer resistant! Hurray! :)

Since the car was so laden down with trees and shrubs we came home to drop them off. That means we'll be hitting Costco at most possibly the busiest time of the day. LOLOLOL.

Mowing is done. I like the zero turn but can use either. Picked a tick off my hand before it bit. Aargh! Leftover pizza is reheating for lunch. The HelloFresh recipe was so good that I may post it, giving credit of course as it was not mine. Pesto crust covered chicken breast. Very yummy.

We have no shower now and are using the jaccusi (?) tub. I dislike climbing in and out but we put a hand held shower thingy on it and it worked reasonably well to remove all the dirt and ticks! There is a setup in the basement but I hate using those concrete stairs. It should be about seven weeks until we can put one in.

Decided to have a Lowe’s put in the shower unit as it is different than the usual standing units. If it proves to be a hassle arranging it we can just not get that one and go with a standing unit.

Pizza s ready. See you later.

Yum on the Pesto crusted chicken breast Karen. Sounds like something we'd like! How is your new shower unit different than the usual ones?

We've had a super busy day and super fun. COSTCO WAS AN ABSOLUTE ZOO! What a hoot! You forget how nutso it is when you never go on the weekends. It truly was hard to find a parking space! I picked up a lovely pc. of salmon as I've decided I want Cedar Planked salmon for Mother's Day dinner. I got another box of the individually pkg'd edamame. They haven't had it like that in a while and it's in perfect sized 2 people portions so extremely handy. My biggest score was petunias!!! A flat of 24 nice big healthy ones for $11.99. They'd just unloaded a truck full of garden centre items and didn't even have them inside the enclosure yet, but I snuck over and grabbed two flats off the trolley. :) SCORE!!!!

Popped in to the Flower store to say 'hi' to my girlfriend. Of course they are insanely busy since it's Mother's Day tomorrow. It was 2:30 and they hadn't even had a bite for lunch yet. Bought some garden things at the Hardware store then over to Sobey's where I bought a pot of basil and dill and two annuals.

Gonna go play in the kitchen now.

Jim's having an awful lot of fun with his Fit Bit. Does anyone here have one? He's been monitoring his sleep patterns and yesterday had 14,000 steps just working out in the yard. They say you should aim for 10,000/day.

Nice on the plants Janet. I bet Costco was a zoo, it is most of the time and even more so on weekends and weekend holidays. Wow on yours having a garden center, ours does not.

That's good you got all the mowing done Karen. Yikes on no standup shower for 7 weeks but you will manage and get use to it. so much so it will seem odd when you do stand up for a shower.

Linda, the deconstructed main bathroom has the toilet only -- down to the studs -- even insulation is gone! In dire emergency one can utilize the toilet -- hard to remember that the end result will be worth it.

Janet - https://www.onyxcollection.com shows a selection of showers etc.

I had wanted to swing in the grocery store after the gym but DH was drooling because Texas Roadhouse (a low quality steakhouse) was open and we go right past it. He forgets how awful it is. I gave in and we went and as I predicted he had a steak so tough he could barely cut it. I had 1/2 roasted chicken which was tolerable.

Hi Linda. We went to a Texas Roadhouse near Columbia MO and it was pretty good. Must be like most franchises -- some good and some not so good.

Colton's USUALLY has decent steaks, altho I had to send one back that was NOT medium rare, more like well done. Inattentive cook, I guess. They were very nice about it and redid it.

It is inching toward 90 F and will be 90 F tomorrow -- so glad we got the mowing done. Tomorrow and Monday would have been horrible days to mow.

Waiting for Wayne to come in from mowing. He can assist in figuring out what is going on with the printer -- it seems to be on strike. Then to fix supper. I am thinking of the HelloFresh duck breast meal.

We had a Texas Roadhouse in NJ that was good but this one here is awful! 90(f), that’s Florida weather! Hope you get your printer running.
