Slow Cooker Saturday.....

  • chuckieb 7 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! I'm trying out the Slow Cooker Turkey recipe that Linda uses for dinner tonight.
    http://www.melskitchencafe.com/slow-cooker-turkey-with-no-fuss-gravy-simple-thanksgiving-solution/
Will get it going later on this morning so it can do it's thing while Jim and I head off on a jaunt today. Haven't narrowed it down yet but I sent Jim three suggestions last night so we'll see what he chooses. :) They all involve Christmas. There's a small Farmer's market and Santa Claus Parade close to us, there's a big Ottawa Christmas Market at Lansdowne and then there is "An Old Fashioned Christmas" (Horse drawn sleigh rides, glass blowing demonstrations, Carollers, etc.) in Manotick which is a little less than an hour away. I'm going to guess that Jim chooses Manotick as there's a restaurant there called the "Cha Tea House" and he LOVES their spicy dumplings. :)

I put a similar picture to the one below on my FB page last night re: the Christmas Farmer's Market we went to last night but I wanted to add this one. A) to show everyone how beautiful the "Girl with the Most Cakes" cakes are and B) it made me think of Michelle and her Elf on the shelf.

Hoping everyone has a wonderful Saturday!

Morning Janet! All three suggestions for what to do today sound great! The spicy dumplings do sound delicious though :) Lol, that elf is exactly the elf that visits us :P Not sure what naughty business she will be up to today when the kids wake up, I guess I need to figure it out soon!!

Well, the tournament got rained out and I am actually relieved! I was not looking forward to sloshing around in the cold wet mud all day, in freezing weather with my toes freezing off lol. The girls don't have much fun when it's this weather either.

So now we have a day to actually do stuff! Want to make these cookies for the Cookie Swap Italian Shortcrust Cookies and ice them with this I think:

We also need to go and get the kids a few more pair of jeans and warm sweaters. I thought we had enough for the season, but of course we are struggling to find stuff to wear every morning. Will probably pick up either breakfast or lunch out depending on what time we leave the house. The weather right now here is not to terribly bad, so we will just have to take umbrellas and see how it goes :) Would like to go ahead and get some family members Christmas gifts while we are out, probably mainly just gift cards for the one's that have everything and are impossible to buy for. Have a great Saturday everyone!!

Well it's a good thing you stayed home last night and didn't waste a night in a Hotel room only to have the tournament rained out Michelle! Indeed, cold, wet mud is not conducive for a fun baseball game. Those cookies are beautiful. Can't wait to hear how they turn out for you. Enjoy your meal out and have fun!

Had a yummy tomato and cheddar omelette with hot sauce for breakfast. Jim chose the Ottawa Christmas Market at the Aberdeen Pavilion at Lansdowne which was actually what I was hoping for. :) We'll grab a fun lunch out some where.

Got the cookie dough in the fridge to sit and we just left home to do our errands. We are going to drop my wedding rings off to get cleaned while we do stuff.

Yum on the cheddar omelet Janet!! Have fun at the Christmas Market!

Decided on this for dinner Sweet And Sour Turkey Meatballs with rice.

    Good Afternoon All.

I/we have been busy here this morning. We had to have Geek Squad come out and service our technology. The wireless printer was not talking to the computer and thus we could not print anything. We tried to connect them numerous times and instead of smashing the printer out on the road we called in for service. My DH, in all his infinite wisdom, changed out the modem/wifi when we were having the phone problem and when he did he messed up everything else. Anyhow ... it's fixed.
After that we went out for something to eat and the place we went to is an odd "Bistro" type restaurant. They serve a normal breakfast on the weekends but the place is Asian otherwise so I had Chicken Pho soup which was fabulous! Came home and packed up another bin of china.

Have fun on your jaunt today Janet. The cakes in the picture are really nice! Almost too pretty to eat.

I wouldn't want to be outside either in freezing wet weather Michelle. Enjoy your "founded" time and have fun baking. The cookies do look good.

The people yesterday never returned to buy the furniture. I figured as much. People down here are just weird! Who goes out to buy furniture with no cash or no truck to take it away ????

Going to the gym in a bit. Need to work some frustration out and off. Not sure what'll be for dinner yet but I have stuff here to be used up so I'll pull something out.

Have a good time at the Christmas Fair Janet. It sounds lovely and the pix is really nice.
Wayne was not exactly in the Christmas spirit this morning, ha ha! He doesn't know it, but we need to make a trip to Springfield to finish Christmas shopping so he will have to get into the swing of it before long. He had some work to catch up on and was antsy to get back and finish it.

Too bad the game was cancelled Michelle, but I agree the idea of freezing to death in cold mud, with icy feet, etc. is not so appealing. Aargh! Have seen the elf on a shelf advertised but don't really know much about it. Sounds cool! I'm sure the kids like it. Your cookies sound good -- I really need to bake something.

Too bad the furniture people didn't return, Linda. Hmmm. Maybe they thought it would disassemble and fit in a van? Who knows! Good luck on the printer-computer connection. Our Brother wireless printer works great on my MAC and iPad but not on Wayne's computer, which is trying to die slowly and he is hoping it survives for a few more months, even tho it won't use the wireless printer and he has to use the old clunker.

Picked up the Star Wars light savers and an el cheapo remote control helicopter. GS wanted a remote control plane or copter but he is too young for an expensive model (they did have a $40 drone at Big Lots but he is not quite ready for one of those, either). Bought him a winter coat at K Mart (his zipper on his old one broke) so he will not freeze on his way to school. Still have to get him something for his swimming competitions, daughter orders them on line.

This is his weekend for him to stay over so I will have some ME time Sunday. His buddy and the cement-crew are to be here Monday (thank goodness, his buddy can supervise, I know NOTHING about cement). Weather is supposed to be rainy and turning cold so cement may or may not get finished.

Wayne's buddy is on the way to deliver some stuff I ordered from the latest school fund raiser so must get moving. See you later.

Ugh on the computer troubles Linda. They're the worst! Yum on the Chicken Pho. "The Girl with the most Cakes" has gorgeous stuff and they are at my local farmer's market every Saturday through the summer months. The cakes are mini as you see and cost $15/each which is totally worth it as they're really a work of art. We used to get them for Benjamin as his birthday cake. You can have them custom done. His birthday fell close to Halloween which was his FAVOURITE holiday so one year we had one done in orange icing with very intricate spider webs and spiders on it. It was gorgeous. That's a shame the people didn't come back for the furniture. :( Hope you had a good workout.

I think light sabers are cool Karen. :) I can see why your Grandson wanted one. Hope the weather holds for your cement pouring project.

I had a really fun day. The Ottawa Farmer's Market was really nice. We bought a big bunch of heirloom carrots, a lovely bottle of Korean Gochujang (they had Kimchi for sale too but wanted $12/jar which I found very pricey) and some beautiful cookies made in a Springerle molds. I'll take a picture of them to show you. They're stunning and delicious. I bought one lemon flavoured one and two anise flavoured ones plus a Lebkuchen gingerbread man.

The cookies sound great Janet. Again, probably too pretty to eat but someone has to do it 😊 So lucky you!

Hope the weather holds out to get the cement poured Karen. What happens if it stays cold and they can't get it laid? Sounds like you are making progress with the shopping.

It was crazy busy out there today. Everyone was out Christmas shopping and the roads were busy and too we are coming into "season" here so there are more people from out of state adding to it all. It'll be worse after the New Year.
Since we were busy all day it was easier to grab dinner out and we went to Bass Pro Shops restaurant and I got 1/2 roasted chicken and DH got a steak.
