Smoothie Sunday

  • LindaLMT 7 years ago
    Good Morning Everyone.

Wishing everyone a great Sunday. It was super quite here yesterday and I'm hoping everyone is ok.
Nothing much planned for today. Do need to make a quick run to the store with or without DH. I need bunny greens, fresh veggies, and eggs. I've been making smoothies every morning and may pick up a few items too for those to change it up. I'll buy ingredients for a blend, then portion and freeze so all I have to do is pull a bag out. The last blend I froze was pineapple, red grapes, and blackberries ... yum! It was a recipe from the Vitamix book that came with my blender. I have Kefir here and will often add that once blended for probiotics and other nutrients. I've been wanting to bake a little something too and have my eye on a flourless almond butter and chocolate chip cookie recipe. The recipe makes a small batch so perhaps that.

What's everyone else up to today?

Good morning everyone. Been lurking but busy. Thursday night I went to this high end restaurant called Davio's. The work atty took us. My boss Nick texts me and my coworker Rob " if your very good and get all your work done and eat all your vegetables Meghan is taking us out " lol. I got lobster Risotto it was very good and something I had never had.
Friday night Frank and I went out to a local place called Luna Rosa they had sent us a $10 gift certificate in the mail. I got chicken salad pizza. Which was quite tasty. It was grilled chicken with pesto and mozerella cheese cooked but then topped with arugula and diced tomatoes that wasn't cooked Crazy but delish.
This brings me to today's problem. So back at Christmas time I bought a ham for Christmas for the 20 people I was having but my MIL sent us a Honey of a Ham so we had that and I froze the other. Today we are having the ham SIL and family are coming and BIL and son Rachel is home too but I usually cook in the crockpot and it's too big to fit. And it didn't come with any directions or I threw them out plus it came with a glaze packet with directions to make the glaze that say refer to booklet. I have no booklet? I googled and it says to cook at 275 so it's in oven but any suggestion on when I put glaze on?

Just a quick 'hi'. "Hi" Linda. I'll be back later to chat properly.

Laurie, I wouldn't fret over the glaze. I make a brown sugar mustard glaze for ham often and put it on right away, but if you're concerned then just wait til the last half hour or so to put it on. I really don't think it's going to make a difference one way or the other.

    Back later.

Just a quick hi, from me as well!
I make a brown sugar and mustard glaze for my ham as well, Laurie. I usually put it on right at the beginning as well. If you wanted to dress it up even more for your company you could also open up a can of pineapple rings and place them on it with toothpicks. I also put cloves on mine at the beginning cutting crisscrosses on the top and push the cloves into the corners of the crisscrosses and I take them all off the ham before I cut it. Even if you didn't put anything on it, you can't really mess up a ham unless you over cook it.

I will try and touch base later on.

Good afternoon! We are huge smoothie lovers here Linda, good idea on freezing portions of fruit to easily add to your blender in the mornings. Good luck with your grocery store trip!

Sounds like you have been eating out at some good restaurants lately Laurie!! Hope your ham turns out!

    Hi Janet :)

    Hi Joce :)

I have been cleaning and prepping all morning for family coming over in about an hour. We are back to doing themes and this month it was things that start with the letter “B” in honor of Bri’s birthday. Everyone is bringing something, so I am doing appy’s which are bacon jalapeno popper cups, bacon tomato dip, and mini berry cream pies. We are also having burgers, baked fries (white potato and sweet potato), some other sides that I’m unsure of, baked almond joy bites, and birthday icecream cake :) Here is the link to the appy’s I am doing, I’ve made the dip, but not the other 2, which I decided on after I came across the phyllo cups at the grocery store and just had to use them :)

Hi everyone! My morning wasn't it's usual routine so didn't get a chance to pop in straight away.

We make smoothies once a week or so for brekkie too Linda. Pineapple, red grapes and blackberries sound like a lovely mix. I tend to throw fruit up in the freezer that we've been slow in eating and we use that. It hasn't gone bad, but it's not as firm or fresh as usual. I always seem to have blueberries and often a banana up there and I like to throw in strawberries or raspberries too. I really like mango but I'm not good at choosing fresh ones and I don't always think to buy frozen. Hope you get out to run your errands and then yourself some cookies. You deserve some. :) How's Bella's eye today?

How nice your boss took everyone out for dinner to a nice spot Laurie! It does sound like you've found yourself a great job. Lobster risotto sounds fabulous. Your chicken salad pizza sounds good too although I sometimes find arugula too strong if there's too much of it.

    Hi Joce!

LOVE your theme dinners and food that begins with "B" is a hilariously fun idea. Your contributions sound wonderful Michelle. I'd love the jalopeno bacon cups. What goes in the bacon tomato dip? Veggies or chips or both? The mini berry cream pies are AHdorbs! Have a wonderful time!

Jim made Toasted Westerns for breakfast and then we ran into town to do a few errands. Wandered around Home Depot getting info and ideas for our rumpus room. We're looking at buying french doors to separate our laundry area from the finished part of the basement and we also looked at LED pot light fixtures. Was a worthwhile trip.

Stopped into Costco for a few basic necessities. On the way out Jim stopped to talk to the guy at the "Primus" booth and next thing you know we've ditched Bell telephone after 35 years of loyalty and have reduced our bill by $500 a year. Unbelievable.

I have a bunch of birthdays coming up so stopped at the Hallmark store and got some cards to mail out and also popped in to "The Unrefined Olive" where I bought a nice bottle of balsamic vinegar, some black lava sea salt which I was getting low on and some Sriracha sea salt which should be fun. :)

Pit stop at the Dollar store for some St. Patrick's Day decorations as we have company coming to visit us then and we grabbed a Shawarma for lunch then home. Busy but productive day.

    Making Pat's
Roast Chicken With Meyer Lemon And Sage
for dinner this evening with a veggie tray. Haven't made the chicken recipe before but it looks yummy.

My problem with smoothies is I always buy lots of ingredients but then get sidetracked. I finally got it in my head to get the ingredients for 1 blend then prep and portion it and freeze it. Next trip to the store do another. I want to do that for about 3 to 4 blends then use them up, if not I have frozen separate ingredients taking up freezer space for months.

Today was a low keyed day. Ran to the local grocery for the few staple items I needed and left DH home (he didn't want to come). He seems to understand about not getting in trouble.
Since there was time decided to give the dog a haircut and I have to say I did a really good job.
Bella's eye is not clearing up but I'll give it a few more days and schedule the appointment for X-rays and a possible tear duct flush. Why prolong the inevitable.
Starting reading the book "A dog's purpose". It's written from the perspective of a dog and so far I'm enjoying it, it's an easy read. I want to see the movie too.

Good deal on switching phone providers Janet! Is it the landline or cell?

Pulled out a thick steak from the freezer and will grill that. I'll slice some off for me overtop a salad and give the rest to DH with sliced tomato and asparagus and carrots.

Good early evening all. Just a quick Hi here. Fun on the theme family get togethers! We used to do something similar years ago when the kids were still young. Hope Bella's eye clears up soon. Everyone's dinner plans sound delightful. Have bacon and swiss cheese wrapped chicken breasts in the oven now. Will serve with mashed potatoes and maybe a salad.

Charlie is still with us but the time is near. We are still hoping for a pass in sleep and he still does not seem in any major pain as the Dr. said. But........but.......he is suffering in other ways. He wants to do his job here and he can't. He didn't even greet my husband and I this morning when we got up. First..time..ever.. And he did not react when my husband grabbed his keys this afternoon to run an errand. Charlie could usually hear those keys from the other end of the house! Always in hopes of getting to go for a ride! We have called a family meeting early in the morning, before we all start our day. If Charlie lives thru the night, then it's time to think about the awful, dreaded....ride. We all have to at least talk about it and decide what to do. Sorry to offer such a sad and down post.

Enjoy the rest of this Sunday!

Nice that you gave LD a trim. Sending healing wishes for Bella. It's a landline we're dealing with Linda. We actually can't get proper cellphone coverage where we are. It works sometimes and then other times not. Love both your dinners.

Hey Shona! Good to see you. I suspect you just hurt all over. Your dinner sounds wonderful. Good luck to Pete on the Yorkshire pudding. That's a lot of pressure.

Your dinner sounds great too Kimmer. NOM. Oh goodness I don't envy your morning or the decision. Such a tough thing. Just keep thinking of how much you love him and you owe him to handle this properly. You guys have done a phenomenal job. Gentle hugs and calming wishes.

Prepped Pat's chicken. Didn't bother with the carrots and onions on the bottom of the pan as the chicken is up on a rack anyway and I have a huge veggie tray to serve with it. It smells good.

Fire's going. Sens Game is on. All is good in my world. :)

It is hard to know when the time to say goodbye to a pet is here, but it sounds like Charlie is approaching the end. They often seem to perk up for a while just before they die. It is never easy. I swore one of our dogs knew she was not going to return from her final ride. They are special members of the family.

Hi to everyone. Hope to have more time to post tomorrow. I am so tired after this weekend. Company is gone. It was very draining even for only two days and I really admire the caregivers who have that task 24/7. He had to check her bag and remove a book she filched, and warned me we might find things stuffed between books in the bookcase or toilet paper hidden around. Guess tomorrow morning we will check. Sigh!

When we picked GS up this morning, I explained the situation in an abbreviated manner so he would not be surprised or concerned. He was fine with it and said he likes them when I asked about the day. It is good for him to learn to deal with all sorts of people and I'm hoping our acceptance helped.

Mauser got locked in sun room all night.....no presents left so she must have held it until Wayne let her out in the morning. Goofy cat!

    Hi again! Phew, I'm pooped!

Janet, we usually use a mixture of things for the bacon tomato dip- tortilla chips, assortment of crackers, pita chips etc. Veggies is a great idea though, using that next time! This time though, my BIL and SIL showed up an hour early and I kind of got in frantic mode trying to get everything out, that I just threw out the Tostido scoops for it and that's it. I meant to put out the crackers but they didn't make it lol. The dip was a hit though, as well as the other appy's :) Especially the jalapeno popper cups, next time I'll have to make more of those as they were gone FAST! Our next theme we picked (drew from a bag) is Japanese. We got some new one's in there that we haven't done before, Moroccan is one of them as well as Hawaiian. Good job at finding a lower phone rate, wow that's saving you quite a bit of money! I bookmarked the chicken, I'm surprised I haven't see that one, can't wait to hear how it turns out :)

Glad you got your shopping done Linda :) Have you ever read “The Art Of Racing In The rain”? It’s from a dogs perspective as well, SO GOOD!! I’ll have to look for “A Dog’s Purpose” sounds good and I love easy reads :)

Oh Shona, I feel so bad for you :( I read back some about you only having one tendon left, OUCH!!! Making me cringe just thinking about it. I’m sorry :( :( Hope your dinner turned out good!!

Hi Kimmer, yes the themes are fun! The kids like it somewhat lol, we do have one’s that they like, BBQ, Breakfast for Dinner, Choose a color, and probably their favorite, Kid’s choice haha! I’m so sorry to hear about Charlie :( That will be a tough decision in the morning.

Yikes on maybe finding toilet paper around your house Karen, I have to ask, will it be used toilet paper? Ugh! Glad you got your book back though!

Cozy in bed now and about to catch up on a couple of DVR shows, only if I don’t pass out during lol. I probably will though. Goodnight everyone!!
