Soaked to the bone Saturday!

Good Morning Everyone! It is STILL raining here! Was up at 7:20 this morning and it was still pretty dark outside! The Shaw Cable guy showed up at 7:30 and is still here doing his thing. Which is good, seeings we have an Ottawa Senators Hockey Game on tonight! :)

Having a friend of Jim's over for lunch today along with his wife and two young girls. They're scheduling it around the girl's naps so will be here by 10:30/11 and leave by 1. Here's my menu:
    Pear And Pecan Salad/print
    Ham N Swiss Loaf
    Apple Crisp
and then I went out and specifically bought ground chicken and a jar of non-spicy spaghetti sauce to serve over some pasta for the girls. I will report back how well it was received, but I am not at all optimistic and I'm still a tad annoyed. :)

The Play last night was fun. We both enjoyed it.

Have to pick a book up at the Library this afternoon and want to stop at the Orchard to grab some fresh apples and whatever else appeals to me.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Good Morning Everyone! Happy Saturday!

My goodness on all the rain you are getting Janet ... you would think you lived in Florida! Your lunch menu looks great (as does your dinner menu)! Hope the extra effort your making to make the girls something to eat is well received.
Happy to hear you both enjoyed the play. Hurray! on the cable hook up being completed.

Nothing planned here today. Will probably clean and do laundry and that's about it. Will pull something out of the freezer for dinner, just not sure what.

Ya, our pond is full now Linda! Good luck with cleaning and laundry. What is Bella up to today? And LD? :)

Got the apple crisp all set to pop in the oven, washed the greens for the salad and made the dressing, and now I'm just finishing off the dough and assembling the Loaf. Guests emailed that they are on their way. Must remember to go change out of my grubbies before they pull up, BUT not too soon or for sure I will get food stuff on myself. :)

Your plans for lunch sound great, Janet. I hope the girls like their lunch as well. If they are scheduling between naps they must be very young. When my GD's were young like two and four, Cailey was not a picky eater but Brianna sure was! Congrats on the new cable. I hope it works better for you.

    Enjoy your day, Linda.

I hope you make a whole bunch of money for the girls at the rummage sale today, Michelle.

Den has gone grocery shopping and should be back soon. He is having his normal cheeseburgers and fries and I am having lamb chops with steamed asparagus and possibly a baked potato. I need to dust and give the hardwood floors a quick dry mop.
Other than that not much is planned for today.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Good morning. Wow, Janet, that's quite the spread. I hope that the parents appreciate the extra effort your putting out for the girls. Yeah that cable is up and working!!
We have had a lot of rain. I drained my pond for the winter and it's almost full again.
I'm sure that you'll find something wonderful to cook, Linda. I'm way behind on the laundry and will be working on that.
Poor Annie, she's scratched her ears till they bled. We were scratching our heads wondering what she could have eaten that caused such an allergic reaction then found several pills behind her water dish.
I'd best get started, have a great day everyone.

LD is getting a bath today and Bella is napping at the moment. It is a glorious day here (for a change). Woke up to temps in the mid 60s(f) and it's warmed up to 77. I have the windows open and letting the house air out while I clean and do laundry.
Made a batch of soap too. I volunteer to write articles for a rabbit rescue group that I support, for their newsletter. Once a year we have an "Ask the Vet" section and I ask one of the vets the rescue uses a question and they answer. I always like to thank them with a little something and our vet this time will be getting some homemade soap (now that I feel it looks nice enough to give). I'll get a nice poufy scrubbie thing too and package it pretty and send it off in a few weeks. I made the same one again that I made when I posted a photo except I put the dark color on the bottom and the light oatmeal part on top and then sprinkled it with whole oats.

Hi Joce! You are a brave women to trust your DH shopping for groceries.

Poor Annie, do you know what the pills were and how they got there Bren? You don't think she ate some do you? Hope she feels better soon.

Phew. All done and I think it was a success. Girls were very rambunctious upon arrival. They are 4 and 2. Got lunch on the table promptly at 12. Absolutely every last bit of everything got eaten up except for the ground turkey spaghetti sauce, but all the pasta and all the adult food and dessert.

Heading out to run a few errands.

Oh no, Linda...I should have mentioned that they were her pills for her allergies. She spit them out and that is the reason why her ears were so itchy.

Your soap sounds lovely and I'm sure that it will be appreciated.

I love throwing open the windows and airing the house too but it doesn't look like I'll be doing that for awhile.

That's great Janet. It must have been really good since it's all gone. I've never made sauce with ground turkey, is there a huge difference in the taste?

I started the laundry but then decided to head over to MIL's and go through the cold room. There were a lot of empty boxes and jars that I put in the recycle and lots of other stuff that had to be pitched. Paid a quick visit to the retirement home and now it's almost time to start dinner. Oh, I also stopped at Produce Depot and picked up some very nice looking artichokes and leeks. Their salmon looked amazing, lots of marbling, so I bought two nice filets.

I agree with Linda, your a brave woman Joce. I sent mine to the store for pepperoni and he brought home salami. Not sure how that's going to taste on a pizza, lol lol.

    Hello everyone!
Sounds like lunch was a success Janet, yay :D I didn't realize the kids were that young either! I would have left them with a sitter if it was me, lol ;) My son was soooo good in public at a young age, but my goodness was Sophia ever a challenge, still is! lol ;P That's why we never go out to eat anymore! ;) ;)

Hi Joce, your dinner sounds wonderful :)

Hi Bren, aww poor Annie! Is it just outside allergies she has? She's crafty, our Roxy is stealth like that with pills too. She even manages to spit out little tiny peas from her food! I always gave Jersey liquid Benadryl for allergies, but she doesn't have them since we moved to Alberta. My vet recommended it, just plain Benadryl for allergies not the sinus and cold one.

Hi Linda, how nice to make soap for the Vet's :) The oatmeal soap sounds wonderful! Have you ever made salves? I buy organic salves and use one on the dogs, it's good for bites, dry or cracked paw-pads, hot spots etc...it's very similar to the eczema one I use on Sophia. It's calendula, beeswax, comfrey, olive/vit.E oils and essential oils. Since I stray from petrol products, I use a Breathe Easy salve instead of Vicks Vapo rub. It has Rosemary and peppermint oils, love that one too. I would love to make it myself one day! :)

It's a gorgeous day here, perfect for a long walk. Colter woke up sick, sore throat, body aches etc. ;S I did another big clean and sanitized everything. I'm sure it's going around all the schools now. Knock on wood I don't get it! Pete and I just ordered some stuff from Amazon, and I totally forgot to get the diffuser, darn it! Pete got LED lights for his truck headlights and fog lights. And we got a tablet for Colter, his laptop is just too big to haul around school, and barely fits in his locker.
Dinner should be Garlic Studded Sirloin Tip Roast, mashed potatoes, with steamed broccoli, cauliflower and carrots. Otherwise that's tomorrow's dinner and we'll have Italian sausages with pasta and sauce. :)

    Enjoy your Saturday!! :)

Your dinners sound great for this evening Joce! Bell expressvu worked peachy keen but we get more channels for less money with Shaw. I'm all excited because we get "Anthony Bourdain's Parts Unknown" now. :)

Oh dear on Annie's ears Bren! :( Poor thing. Good luck with laundry. LOL....I'd read your post that Annie had eaten some pills as well and that's what she was allergic to. LOLOL. Glad to hear she just spit out her medicine. :) I shall admit to using Ground turkey in the pasta sauce as it was on sale for a lot better price than ground beef. Yes, it tastes a little different but not a huge deal as it is swimming in tomato sauce right? And the parents had simply said 'ground meat with tomato sauce and a bit of pasta on the side'. :) I'll just freeze the remainder and throw it in with my next batch of spaghetti sauce. Nice find on the artichokes and leeks and the salmon fillets.

Hope LD's bath and Bella's nap were good. :) You are a soap making machine aren't you! :) Very thoughtful of you to send the Vet a little gift. I think it's neat you write articles for that magazine.

Jim and I ran our errands and also stopped into an apple orchard. Bought two mini white pumpkins, a big jar of honey, a jug of apple cider and a small basket of apples. They had tons of pumpkins on display, from teeny to huge.

Michelle, can't wait to hear how your Rummage sale turned out. Hope you have good weather for it.

Glad the lunch went over well, Janet.

I simply put peanut butter and jelly and bread on the table for any kids (or adults) who "didn't like" what was Cooked. I concur with "leave them with a sitter" philosophy, esp. if they were rambunctious. Our youngest GS was super good 😊 when visiting, but he is an exception. He is very picky and has food allergies to complicate things....no dyes, h.f.corn syrup, nitrites, cured anything, but he loved spaghetti with sauce so he is easy to feed. He would eat it for days in a row if he could. Of course, not even a tiny speck of tomato passes his lips so daughter has even puréed the sauce and melted cheese in it without informing him. He refuses to eat cheese, even tho he used to love grilled cheese sandwiches. If we use venison I fry it well crumbled so he can't pick it out, and refer to it as "ground beef" or he won't eat it. Otherwise he will be stuck with a p b & j again.

Sirloin sounds wonderful. Shona! We will likely go to Edgar Springs for supper.

Bren, we had a cat who fooled us into thinking she had taken her pills, then we found it on the floor later. Sneaky little things!

Linda, your soap sounds great. Very nice thank you gift 🎁.

Joce, Wayne is also good at running to the grocery and bringing back what I want. Usually. He may pick up a box of no-grain cereal that was not on the list, but that is about it.

Back to the cleaning, bathroom floor got mopped with Pine Sol and a real mop instead of a Swiffer, looks bright and clean! Next is to empty the drier and throw shower curtains into the washer. Aargh! Why don't houses clean themselves? LOL!

Got to scoot. See you later.

Hi Karen! Sounds like you're having a busy day cleaning your house. Enjoy dinner out!

SP Shona! That's hilarious that Roxy actually spits out peas. LOLOLOL. Priceless! Sounds like Colter caught Sophia's cold eh? Hope he feels better soon. Who's gonna be next, you or Pete? I was SO close to ordering that diffuser, but I saw more pictures of it taken at night time and the LED light at the top is quite bright. I'm a major fan of pitch darkness when I'm sleeping. I even turn off night lights and I place the digital alarm clock away from me so it's light doesn't irritate me. :) I'll continue to look for one with no lights though. I really want one. :) Nice that Colter is getting a new tablet. I've got to go shopping for a new laptop for myself soon, although Jim fixed the lid on my current one so at least that's not threatening to fall off. Both the roast and the sausages sound wonderful. I bookmarked your Roast recipe.

Thanks for the input on the ground turkey, Janet. I would love to try if but might go with half beef and half turkey. I'm like you when it comes to sleeping, I can't have all of the lights off. I agree with the others, the children should have been left with a sitter.

Benadryl doesn't help with the allergies, Shona. She has food and environmental allergies. She's licked her paws raw at times and the meds just hold it at bay.
Yum on the roast. I've made that recipe and it's great!!

Lol @ the cat Karen. Annie will put the pill in her mouth and then pretend that she wants water and spit it out so we don't see it. My daughter was a fussy eater too. I used to make a dish with mushrooms that I called dark chicken and I had to take the label off the can.

I had a few extra minutes so I made a shepherds pie for the freezer. Gotta run and finish dinner.

    Have a great evening everyone.

The kids were indeed rambunctious but all in all I'd have them back, and I think it's important to socialize kids when they're young. I was a tad worried when they were running up and down the hallway when they first arrived and exploring all the rooms as of course our house isn't child proof and we had both the fire place and the pellet stove going. I didn't approve when they let the two year old put her hands in the lettuce on the main salad plate as who is going to want to eat it after that? Although her Dad actually did so that was good. :) And I also don't like it when people change their children's diapers on my floors. I used to bring a diaper pad thing and go into the washroom when Benjamin was young. Anyway.....the girls settled down once lunch was served and then we went for a little walk outside. I gave them both a little stainless steel bowl of peanuts to feed the turkeys with and they enjoyed that. LOL @ taking the label off the can so your daughter didn't know what was inside. :) Nice on the Shepherd's pie. I didn't know you could freeze them but I guess it stands to reason.

Hello all and happy Saturday evening! Sorry I fell off the wagon, so to speak, and went missing again for a few. Trying my best to keep up with ODD again!

Can't reply to all posts but yours Janet, sticks out. The very few times we accepted lunch or dinner invitations when the kids were still that young, I would certainly change diaper somewhere appropriate. Generally, I would ask the host if there was a room where I could and usually the answer would be yes, in here! But hey, that goes back some years!

Well, big news here. My daughter got engaged last Sunday at Epcot!!!! This is monumental for the family. She has had such a hard time and cross to bear the last few years. Some of the old timers here on ODD might remember. But her ex, the father of my grandson, was very abusive, not only physically but verbally and took a horrible toll on my daughter and her son. Her future husband is her middle school and high school sweetheart! They were together until about age 18, then for whatever reason, they broke up. He was a part of our family and we always figured they would end up married (even his parents!) but suddenly, it was all gone. He move away to Colorado for many, many years and then moved back to Florida. Well lo and behold, one day a year ago, at a local deli, my daughter was getting a sandwich and there he was in line too. They got talking and well.......the rest is history. They found themselves again after 10 years apart! So we are sooooo happy. I always thought they should be together, but hey, what do Mom's know, lol! So, a family celebration dinner was planned for last night. Asked them both, what would you like for main course. Kind of figuring steak....filet migon or rib or porterhouse..........no, they both said, YOUR MEATLOAF! Really, Really! Ya, they meant it. So that is what we had for their celebratory dinner. LOL, MY husband dubbed it the Matrimonial Loaf! Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, mushroom gravy, green beans and salad. With pumpkin cookie cake for dessert. There ya have it! So glad I raised a humble......home cooking is the best.......daughter!

Aside from that, I have been under the weather a bit this week. But feeling much better now and enjoying our nice cool weather here in sunny Florida.

Linda, I would love one or two of the bars of soap you just posted! Holey Moley, Gorgeous! Willing to pay your cost plus profit. Let me know. If you are not comfortable with that, I certainly understand. But would take two bars next time you make a batch. Please pm me.

    Leftovers for dinner tonight.

    Sleep Sweet All...........as always..........

Very sweet that they both requested your Meatloaf. You should be very proud! :) The entire meal AND the yummy dessert sounds fabulous. Good job Momma! :) Thanks for sharing. That's a nice happy story to end the ODD Day. Night All!
