Sunday Silence

  • MissouriFarmWife 8 years ago
    Good morning.

It is six o'clock and still dark outside. Wayne is still asleep, I am wide awake and curled up in the recliner with alternating cats popping on and off my lap. He has a long drive ahead, it is his stay-over Sunday.

Linda, we have only had one bunny which I took in because it had been doomed to be rabbit dinner or dumped if I didn't. Came complete with a too-small cage. It was still rather young. It drove the cat crazy and was not a good fit. To make a long story short I did give it to a woman who also had a mini lop eared bunny that slept with her eleven year old son. The boy carried it to the car, instead of in the cage, very gentle and completely at ease. I gave him away with a return-guarantee no questions asked if he did not work out, but They were experienced bunny owners and happy to get him.

Well, we did take in some baby wild bunnies whose mama was killed in our yard, but they went to someone who rehabbed wild ones. They were too young to release yet.

Nothing exciting going on here. Fritz is trying to chase Mel but Mel ignores him. He was chastised for chewing two forbidden items and will have to give him his chew rope to munch on. Now I know why I wanted an older dog. Sigh!

Have a blessed Sunday. See you later.

Good Morning. Hope everyone has a great day!

Got some rain last night and with it came some cooler temperatures. Woke up to 71 degrees (f). Haven't been out the door yet to see if it's humid or not but it always is. The one great thing about SWFL is you never have dry skin (LOL).

Hubby did take me and dog out for dinner last night and even though we didn't get pizza going anywhere is better than cleaning up after making a meal. That's the other nice thing about SWFL ... most eating establishments that have any form of outdoor seating (and a lot do) welcome well behaved dogs to sit outside with their humans. You would think too that there would be tons of dogs out but there isn't, we usually are the only one and occasion someone else has a small dog out too.

Bunnies are unique and their needs and care are different. It was the right thing to do Karen to first save him and then to find him a more appropriate home. I applaud you for it.

Over the years I've rescued several cats who were dumped in the wooded area behind our house, displaced turtles, sick raccoons, baby oppossums, birds, etc. Whatever happens to cross our path that needs help gets help.

Sounds like your auction venture paid off too!

Shona, your kitchen reno sounds exciting! I love watching the HGTV type shows where they come in and do reno jobs. And the farm sink wonderful.

Nice on the rehab bunnies Karen. Hope Wayne makes out okay with his drive and stay over. Wayne did well at yesterday's auction! I used to have a BB Gun. Shot cans for practice. I wasn't very good. Your lunches yesterday sounded excellent and now I have a craving for a Taco salad. :) The fabric pins I bought yesterday have little chickadees on them so I thought they'd be cute on a jacket or sweater.

Yikes on your long day yesterday Michelle! And you're probably back at the ball fields already by now!

Nice sunshine and blue sky this morning. We're just staying put today. Will go for a walk at some point. Our steak last night was magnificent. Jim cooked it to perfection. Had a tossed salad and some sautéed asparagus on the side.

Not sure what to make for dinner this evening. Still on my first cup of coffee so the brain hasn't switched to action mode yet. :)

    Have a great day everyone!

SP Linda! It's -9C/15F here in Ottawa at the moment. How about you send me some of your warmer temps and I'll send you some of our cooler temps and we'll regulate. :) My son Benjamin, lives in Taipei, Taiwan and the vast amount of the population own 'small purse dogs' and they are actually allowed inside restaurants which I don't care for. People put them right up on the table and everything! They also buy a crazy amount of accessories for them including little carriages that they push them around in on the streets. It's fairly bizarre. Love that you've helped rescue all those different animals. Is there an establishment that will take them afterwards? I used to foster baby squirrels who'd lost their Moms but then the City of Ottawa along with the Ministry of Natural Resources passed legislation that the Ottawa Wildlife Centre (a local animal rehab place) wasn't allowed to accept animals from a certain distance away any longer. We still have a Bird Centre where you can bring orphaned or injured birds but that's it. :(

Have a safe drive Karen! Your ham dish last night sounded yummy as does your Church's Chicken for tonight. :)

    Jim has requested Lori's
    Picture Perfect Grilled Chicken
for dinner this evening so I'd best get it in the marinade.

    Hi ladies:)

We're enjoying a nice relaxing Sunday! We'll be starting brekkie soon..cottage potatoes with sour cream, chives and onion, poached eggs and turkey kielbasa (me) and Linguica (Rick) , toast and fresh fruit....and champagne:) We eat a light brekkie during the week so a big Sunday breakfast is a given here:)

I love the bunny stories...does my heart good that Karen and Linda are caring bunny and animal rescuers..I'm the same way!

I haven't even thought about what we'll have for dinner..Rick's risotto was delicious, he made a plate for our next door neighbor..since she came over for a visit while he was in the process of making it..she loved it:)

    Have a lovely Sunday all:)

Ditto, Marie your breakfast sounds amazing! I'm one of "those" who usually skips breakfast.

Janet I'll trade you some warm weather anytime for some cold. And Wowzers! to your son living in another country and one that is so different. Here your dog can not be on the furniture, not eat from a plate, your responsible for clean up (and may be charged if your dog goes to the bathroom on the patio area), etc. The restaurant usually hands you a card with the rules and if you break them you can be asked to leave and possibly fined. They just recently started this because there were no rules in place and I'm sure the policy was being abused so the local county governments stepped in and set guidelines. After all, I may love my dog, but not everyone else does and their rights too need to be respected. A responsible pet owner usually has no problem with the rules or their dog. We have a 7 pound Maltese and when we go out I bring a small blanket for him to sit on and he knows that is his spot. I too keep him harnessed and leashed.

Both in NJ (were I lived before) and FL we have wildlife rescue centers ran by the counties or state. They've been a good resource once you have the animal but usually it's up to you to get it.

So nice of you to rescue and take care of the bunnies,Karen. Bunnies are so darn cute!
Welcome to ODD, Linda. My name is Joce and I am also retired. My HB is still working, though. 71 F is indeed a decent temp for FL. How nice you can take you dog out to dinner with you.
Really weird about the purse dogs in Taiwan, Janet. I couldn't imagine seeing a dog on a table where people eat! Your dinner sounds great to me!
Your breakfast sounds to die for, Marie! I hope you both enjoy your well deserved relaxing day.
Shona, Your kitchen sounds like it is going to be just beautiful.
Michelle, You are a busy one! I don't know how you choreograph everything with the kids and their sports!
We are having garlic studded pork blade roast tonight for dinner with mashed potatoes and steamed green beans. Doing laundry today and some dusting is in order as well.
Going to make some brunch for us in a bit. Poached eggs on toast with peameal bacon and sliced tomatoes with a bowl of fresh fruit.
    Wishing everyone a pleasant day!

I think it's nice that the outdoor restaurants allow pets Linda and I think the rules are a good idea for everyone as well. :)
Yum on your dinner tonight Joce and good to see you. Hope you're feeling better! Your brunch sounds amazing. Jim and I made omelettes with ham, cheese, mushrooms and onions.
It's COLD outside! Just came in from feeding the birds!

Oh dear, I can not imagine Fritz at an outdoor eatery! He is semi house broke and thinks he is allowed on other people's laps...NOT! We are slowly making progress in training but still a long way to go. Plus he chews everything he can get hold of and I will be happy to see the puppy stage gone. He weighed twelve pounds at the vets but feels like he has put on some more weight.

Must go take him outside. Just walked in the door.

    See you later.

Just finished leftovers for lunch and are about to head out for a walk. I un-decorated the house from Easter and still have a few things to take down outside as well.

    Making
    Pasta Salad

Nice to officially meet you Joce. Thanks for the welcome.
Ahhh, the puppy stage Karen. I remember when ours was a puppy and my husband took all his toys away one day and put them away out of frustration and a moment of not thinking because he was tired of stepping on them ... well the dog chewed a protruding corner of a wall ... he got his toys back a.s.a.p. (Ha!)

Yes, he is slowly becoming civilized. There is hope. He destroyed a toy ball we got him in two minutes, demolished the small organic, grass fed bone in an hour, tore up the little afghan he was given by a lady in the church bec. we didn't put his chew toy in with him in his crate, and he chewed up a doggy tennis ball toy in three days. So far he has not bothered shoes but then we watch him like a hawk. My leather and suede purses have to be put away. He is a trip. Around five will have to take hm on a LONG walk so he tires out. He finally wore out from this afternoons stroll followed by bug the cats time and is on my lap, but stirs if a tempting cat strolls by.

Well, going to get coffee cup number two and try to relax a bit. Housework can wait. See you later.

Hi all! Lost our game this morning so the tournament was over for us. We went and ate lunch with my Dad at Gringos then came home and we all took a 2 1/2 hour nap that was much needed lol. Now I am doing a little cleaning and picking up. Want something not labor intensive to make for dinner including cooked chicken and broccoli that I need to use up. Typed that into the ingredient search bar and got quite a few results. Have it down to these two:
    Chicken And Broccoli
    and:
Impossibly Easy Chicken And Broccoli Pie
Can't decide which one, they both sound good!
I have a lot of catching up to do in here this evening, have a great day everyone!!

You'll get your exercise in having Fritz to walk now eh Karen. :)

Sorry to hear you lost the game Michelle but sounds like you had a nice lunch with your Dad and LOL @ the nap. You totally deserved it! :)

I was going to go out for a walk but when I went out to take down the Easter decorations (and Christmas lights from the front shrub) I froze my patootie off. Jim went anyway. I swear he's part robot. I was a wuss. :( That is why he is in way better shape than I am.

Too bad the tournament is over, Michelle. A nap sounds good....critters did not cooperate or I would have had a longer one!

I heard the horses calling earlier, very unusual and not a good sign. It turned out it was only a guy on horseback going to see the neighbor. (I watched to be sure he was not trespassing on our place...not sure what I would have done if was!). Then Fritz was bothered so I looked and he had gone by again. Later two four wheelers went down. I think they were a neighbor on the highway, but kept my eyes open anyway. Fritz actually alerted me. Maybe there is hope for him yet. Of course this only happens when Wayne is gone...AAARGH!

Rocky, my horse, is not shedding his winter coat as much as he should by now. Older horses sometimes do, so the plan is to have a good curry session to get rid of the stuff. With Fritz in tow, all I could do is work through the fence, and Blue kept moving him aside to get the petting. Silly beasts. We may have to consult the vet if he keeps having a problem. I can not remember the proper term for the condition.

Decided to pick up a fish dinner at Culvers instead of the usual chicken. Their haddock is good, so is the pot roast dinner. Tomorrow it is back to cooking.

Lots of action while Wayne is away alright Karen. Good on Fritz for being a guard dog. Hope Rocky will be okay. Keep us tuned. Yummers on Haddock. I love haddock. May actually have some tomorrow night pan-fried.

In front of the fire....good line up on TV tonight. I love those genealogy shows and Selfridge's is on later as well.
