gonna be a hot one today. I am not cooking. Frank's cousin is getting married this afternoon and the reception is tonight. Based on the Engagement party and the bridal shower it should have some great food.

Kid is sleeping in, have not had a chance to gauge her emotional barometer yet today. She is "supposed" to be helping me around the house, then work at 5:00 and then off to Rocky Horror at midnight at the Beach Theater. It is the weekly showing and everyone dresses in character and throws rice and stuff at the screen. Only enjoyable if you are young, I think.

I'm not cooking tonight either. High school friend in town from PA and we are going to meet at SeaHag's where Liv works. They can see each other, we can visit for a while. I'll probably just do an appetizer. Chef Dave makes wonderful Tuna sashimi.

Seared Tuna sashimi is something I wouldn't attempt to do at home. I figure I would just ruin that expensive tuna. I don't know what he does to the seaweed, but it is very yummy stuff.

Have fun at the reception, Laurie. I hope the food exceeds the expectations.

Will have to make something that Fred will eat. I've got half a chicken in the frig...I'll probably covert it into a few wrap sandwiches for him. He isn't invited to the gal chat fest.....he will, more than likely, be the topic of discussion. He is better off at home. LOL

his afternoon we will be gathering with friends and family to honor the 40th anniversary of Kevin & Cher Dowling. Kevin is my husband's brother. Their children put the heads and hearts together to assemble the memorabilia of their partents years together, got a caterer and a band and gathered us together. Should be big fun.

I had a big day yesterday. Spent 3 hours in the garden and made progress on the south side of the house. Had a chance to have a good talking to our lawn guys who have been slacking. Also met a nice man that wants to sell me a new roof.

Ahh the roof thing. Its really hard to fork over that much cash but can there be a better investment than maintaining your home. This old roof has been through three hurricanes and hasn't given us too much trouble. I know it needs doing and I'll find a way to finance it. The state government has what they call Roof Mitigation which can result in a lowering of your home owners insurance. No telling by how much but some claim it can add up to as much as 45%. Well anything is a help.

I posted a recipe for Chipped Pork Sandwiches. A good way to stretch a couple of left over pork chops. Calories shown include your basic hamburger roll. Made those for dinner last night so I had to make a recipe to figure out the calories so might as well share :)

Always had to have Nathan's. Don't know which I liked more, the dogs or the fries. That was always a trip we made just before school started. Farewell to summer. My daughte lives in Brooklyn and has been there many times. About time for you Lillian!!

Allergies are back with a vengeance. It's like they take one day off and back the next. No fun.

Going to get my chick in the marinade and lay down a little or I will lay down a little and then get it in the marinade. lol

Chicken became chicken salad....tomorrow's lunch...just celery, little onion, mayo, curry powder, salt and pepper, chopped dried cranberries, chopped walnuts.

Made a quick pressure cook pot of pinto beans. Pot of chili. Pot of rice. Fred has plenty to chose from while he watches the Bucs pregame tonight. And there are always hot dogs.

Ang, I hope you feel better.
Lillian, have fun on the day trippin' sounds like a lot of fun.
Points, glad you are able to enjoy eating and cooking again.
Pat, I hope you had a good lunch.
Wynne, if we didn't have a/c and 10 ceiling fans, I'd be a dead duck. How I live in Florida heat and don't escape I don't know?
Otter, best of luck on the roofing. When we had our roof redone, the shingle delivery ended up at another address.......they screwed up the address and all I know is a very irate man came pounding on my door demanding what I was going to do about the pallets of shingles on his roof? AT 8:00 p.m!!!! I didn't know they ended up on his roof 5 houses down. You would think the delivery people would have noticed the house with NO shingles was a few doors down instead on stacking our shingles on his tile roof!!!!!! 6001 is not the same as 6100, just in case anyone ever asks.

LOL Tina, yeah the people that drive those delivery trucks aren't always the sharpest knife in the drawer. Sounds like Fred is set, have fun tonight with your GF! Hope your daughter is feeling better.

Laurie, have a good time at the wedding, report back on all the good food - LOL

Otter, that Anniversary party sounds like it's going to be a good time. On the roof, glad there is some assistance for you, we had to shell out about $10,000 this last Winter for our roof, not good timing at all! They put it on in freezing 16* weather!

Pat, Bet that Italian lunch was good, hope you had a nice swim later too.

Lillian, don't feel bad, I live less than 5 minutes from the big Boeing plant that people come from all over for tours, and have never even been inside! I've been here since 1970! Seems like we don't go to things in our own backyard sometimes.

Ang, I loved that Savory chicken - had the last piece yesterday for lunch! Sorry about your allergies....

Points, so it's for YOU this time? Good eats.

I'm supposed to be smoking baby back ribs today, but haven't got around to it. Also spose to call our friends, the ones from CA that took us to dinner a couple weekends ago, and see if they want to come by tonight and bring the kids. We haven't seen their kids since they were little. They're leaving on the 17th. Better get to it. Muggy here today also, but not too hot. That's coming on Tues/Wed 90's again - UGH

Potato salad sounds good. I think I'm going to make some tomorrow, although I should boil the potatoes tonight when it's cooler, not so muggy now. Plans for ribs are switched to tomorrow (they can't make it tonight) So I figure b-back ribs on the smoker, potato salad, baked beans (or course) some kind of bread, and of course martinis! Their kids are 15 and 12 now! God, they'll probably be bored to death. Thought we might play bocce ball. Who knows, the kids might beg them to stay with Grandma instead of coming. I know myself at that age (15 or 12) wouldn't want to go sit at some "old peoples" house all night! LOL

Oh, I love bocce ball. Great game. One of my worst klutz injuries ever came from playing that game........I was playing barefoot (idiot!) and when I went to chase an errant ball, I stepped full force on a broken sprinkler head into the arch of my foot at the public park. I spent the next 4 hours with my foot in an ice cooler full of cold beer bottles. Dang, that hurt! I missed two weeks of work before my ankle healed.

Potato salad is a wonderful food. Does anyone else douse their hot potatoes in white vinegar before the dressing? A trick from my Grandma Roberts and Grand Aunt Mabel, it just makes the potatoes ever so more tasty.

Dinner was wonderful. Irene treated me to supper. I had Chef Dave's stuffed green pepper soup, we shared a dish of smoked fish spread. Irene had the best looking plate of scallops and shrimp EVER....they were 12-15 count shrimp and lightly batter fried. Madeleine had the clam strips and it was the most enormous basket of clam strips I had seen lately for that price. With really good hush puppies. They put my recipe to shame. Oh, my entree was a jumbo lump crab cake, with wasabi sauce. It was delicious. We talked for 3 1/2 hours. I've got no voice left. We figured out we have known each other since we were ages 7 and 8 years old. Bless her heart, she had a quick heart to heart with Liv and told her that her mom isn't so bad afterall. Irene knows me almost better than my sisters and she is a true blue friend. I am truly blessed.

Wonderful TIna! I'm so happy you had a great time! Sounds like some good food too! Seems like I'd heard about the vinegar bath with the potatoes before, but no, I've never done it. Looking forward to tomorrow. Good friends, good times.
I ended up making some stuffed poblanos - had 3 large in the fridge. They just beeped done. Have to come back and post about them..... Gotta feed the old man..........

You can call me poblano today. I've been stuffed all day long. From apple cobbler to spaghetti my stomach feels swell. No soreness with the gums today. Might be time to start switching back over to more demanding chew factor food to test out the gums. Dentist appointment on Tuesday and I think he will give me the all clear.

I'll be able to get back to critiquing recipes. Fear Me!
