Thanksgiving Thursday!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the States! Wishing you a wonderful day full of good food, friends and family! I did turn on the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade on TV. Looks like a grand day in New York City! I have it playing in the background and I'll peek in from time to time to watch. :)
This year I took turkey and gravy out of the freezer that I had leftover from our Thanksgiving last month and I'm going to make Hot Turkey sandwiches for dinner this evening. I'll even make some devilled eggs. :) You guys always make me so hungry with your turkey talk!
Jim has brought the car over to the garage.
    Safe travels Michelle!
Marie....can't wait to hear how your turkey and fixin's turn out! :)
    Have a grand day everyone!

    Hi.

Ooh - hot turkey with gravy sounds like super sandwich.

We had Thanksgiving yesterday with our daughter, so I forgot about the Macy's parade until you mentioned it. Sitting in the sun room enjoying a second cup of coffee. Wayne is fixing something for breakfast but I am not particularly inclined to eat yet so will go for the coffee first. Then will have to transfer to the LR to watch the TV.

Daughter did well fixing the "stuff" and she really likes the layout in my kitchen. Her range is trying to give up the ghost and her oven is "off" so she cooked here. It worked out well. Plus she left a couple of organic lemons and spices. I will use them in something, I'm sure.

Going to make a crock pot roast and then either boiled potatoes or leftover mashed. Carrots, onions, can cook with the meat or maybe just fix separately. It is almost 9:30 and we slept in until 8, so it is past time to get going.

Caught a small possum in one trap and one raccoon in the barn...a second trap was shifted so there are more than one hanging around to chow down on my chickens. The raccoon that attempted to break in and dine, really did a lot of damage. We will check the wiring again to be sure it didn't succeed in dislodging any. Fortunately Blondie was not one of the offenders or even his blond coloring would not save him. Wayne's buddy suggested again that we have it stuffed and in the sun room - the verdict is out -- he has behaved so far.

    Have a super nice day.

Morning Janet! I tried to DVR the parade last night but my box was acting funky and wouldn't cooperate. I c an probably find it on On Demand when I get home. Super yum on hot turkey sandwiches!

We just got through downtown Houston. We should be there by 1pm, if not earlier. This will be the biggest family gathering that has ever taken place on Michael's side of the family that I have been to! I'm even meeting some family I've never met before and we have been together since we were 18 lol. I brought 3 lbs. of asparagus to sautee. Not sure what else is on the menu but Michael's Mom said there will be a TON of food! Hope everyone has a great day and Happy Thanksgiving!

    Happy Thanksgiving!!
Enjoy the family gathering Michelle, wow sounds like it will be a big party! :)
    No leftover turkey Karen?
Good idea on the hot turkey Sammy's Janet!
I have to run into town, feels like forever since I left the house. Colter requested a chocolate chip cookie ice cream cake for his birthday, it's really cute--looks like a big ice cream sandwich: http://www.foodnetwork.ca/recipe/chocolate-chip-ice-cream-cake/5505/
I still need to get food and a present!! So I'll be busy in town all day. Dinner is still determined ;)
    Have a great day everyone!!

    Hi Marie, Happy Thanksgiving!
Hi Michelle, his birthday is on the 28th, this Saturday. :) It's almost like having a later thanksgiving because I don't really think about xmas until after his birthday, and we never decorate or put our tree up until after his birthday! lol :)

Happy Thanksgiving to all our American friends! Hot turkey sandwiches sound great for dinner, Janet. A great idea! Funny I always think of deviled eggs as a summer treat along with potato salad. I never make either of them in the fall or winter.
I hope you caught the culprit critters, Karen. A crock pot roast is always welcome here.
I bet you are going to have a great time visiting and eating with Micheal's family, Michelle.
    Hi Marie.
Good luck shopping for Colter's birthday stuff, Shona.
I am making Meat Cabbage Rolls With A Twist for dinner and the freezer today.
    Wishing everyone a great day!

Well it's hard to sit in front of the TV for three straight hours to watch a parade. Perhaps if you had people to watch it with and a batch of Mimosa's it'd be more fun. :) I did see a big Paddington Bear balloon that I liked. Didn't recognize the announcers. I was on CBS. Guess I should have changed channels until I found someone I knew and liked. :)
Glad you had a lovely dinner last night with your daughter and family Karen. Lucky you on acquiring some lemons and spices! :) Glad Blondie stayed out of the fracas.
Enjoy your visit with Michael's family Michelle. It sounds like a lot of fun.
Have a good run into town Shona. That chocolate chip ice cream cake is AH-dorable! Lucky Colter! I can understand not putting your tree up until after his birthday.
    Hi Marie!
My Mom used to serve devilled eggs at any family function especially Thanksgiving and Christmas Joce. And Jim LOVES devilled eggs so he'd eat them any day of the year. :) But you're right....they are kind of picnic food as well. Yum on cabbage rolls!
Jim's back and the car is all winterized. I made a small pot of turkey noodle soup for lunch and the hot turkey is all prepped for dinner. Now I'm cleaning the house. A big one before we head off next week.

To all who watched the parade: we forgot about it then got too busy so it was not watched here either. Aargh!

Hi Jcce, Michelle, Shona, Marie, and Janet (again - ha ha). And anyone else I forgot.

Hope your family gathering is fun, Michelle. Always interesting to meet more in-laws, esp. after so many years.

Shona, we do have some leftover turkey - probably for lunch today or tomorrow. The BD cake sounds so cute!

The rump roast is in the crock pot on high - will turn it down in a couple of hours so it can simmer away. I added "parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme" (fresh spices left by daughter), garlic, dash of organic onion, along with 3 cloves of allspice - the latter because I thought it was my peppercorns - which I discovered is NOT in my cupboards, have to put them on the grocery list. I decided to just let it simmer in with the rest of the spices and see what happens. LOL.

We scoured the kitchen this morning. The dishes were done last night and leftovers divvied up so we had the stove top (UGH! Gross!) to go over, roaster and burners to clean. I put away the clean pans and baking paraphenalia from yesterday, then we really cleaned the countertop and sink. It looks pretty good now. Took a pix of the table before adding food and removing my corncob doll and pine cone candle. It was quite pretty. The roaster was a real trip...Wayne said one of these days we should just run the innards thru the dishwasher! I went thru half bottle of Dawn getting the thing clean. Both of us are tired.

It is a comfortable, quiet day in the sun room. My feet hurt and he has commented his do also, so we are being a couple of old folks just relaxing for a bit.

Unfortunately we think one of the coons filmed in the barn may have been - ta da! - Blondie. Wayne thinks he walks differently and this may just be one with more solid coloring, but I am highly suspicious. The film is infra red and in B & W and not too clear. A game camera that would do better is priced quite high and we are not really wanting to spend the money. Ha! Whichever one it was, did a masterful job throwing things all over the barn. It took Wayne quite a while getting it straightened up and he will have to get a part for the shop vac! Will show the film to his buddy and see if he agrees with my opinion or my hubby's.

I cannot read the words, parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme without singing the Simon and Garfunkel tune Karen. :) LOL. I'm pretty sure I've seen allspice in beef roast recipes before, german ones I think. JIm wouldn't be happy as he really dislikes the smell and taste of allspice. Your table sounded lovely. Good for you two for sitting back and relaxing. You had a busy day yesterday and it's nice to be able to sit back a bit from time to time. Uh oh on you thinking Blondie may be one of the culprits.
