Thoughts for thursday....

    good morning everybody!

i am most impressed that you cut your own hair shona. cutting someone else's is one thing but reaching around to cut your own is another! good for you. :) i'm also pleased to hear you liked the balsamic chicken recipe. i'm going to short list it so i can try it soon myself!

i see you liked that crockpot pepper steak michelle. even though there's no way you'd get me to eat zucchini noodles i do think it's very cool you made them. waaaayyyy healthier!

keni has some reuben balls featured on the home page that i'm lusting after! wouldn't those make a great superbowl snack food!
    Reuballs

so i've been eyeing up recipes for pickle brined chicken lately. not too long ago i saw someone post a pickle brined chicken wing recipe but it's just too unhealthy for me to fathom making so i tried looking for alternate recipes as i liked the concept. i love pickles. :)

here's the recipe i'm thinking of making although i'm going to bake it as opposed to grill it.

    http://allrecipes.com/recipe/238385/pickle-brine-chicken/

the wings i saw were brined in kosher dill juice for 5 hours, rinsed and patted dry. Then they got a super tangy lime ranch rub, were grilled and then were tossed in Bourbon Barrel Bacon Dust! they sound incredible, but between them using wings, ranch rub and bacon dust.....:)

heard it was national homemade soup day today. we have guests coming to visit next weekend so i'm going to make a batch of
    Meatball Soup
to put down in the freezer to have on hand.

a little football giggle. i'm afraid i am not into it. but i do like cooking superbowl snacks. :)

    wishing everyone a great day!

Morning!! Hi Janet! Yes, I'm obsessed with zucchini noodle, and carrot noodles, and yellow squash noodles, and even beet noodles!! You can spiralize anything lol. I was eyeing those reuballs too :P Let us know how the pickle brine turns out! Lol at the super bowl pun!!

About to leave to go to Staples and get a poster laminated for Girl Scouts. Meeting my Uncle as well to grab a check from him as he is sponsoring Bri's softball team, yay! So his company name will go on the back of their softball jersey's :) Dinner will be leftover chicken and sausage thrown into a pan and sauteed up with whatever veggies. Quick and easy :) Wishing everyone a great day!!

I've never heard of a pickle brined chicken before! I'd look at the recipe but my computer does not like Allrecipes.com, and won't let me look up the recipe :( I have so many of my own recipes on there that I haven't transferred here yet, and I can't get to them :( Wow, those wings sound very impressive, bacon dust---yum!!

I have a hand spiralizer, but keep forgetting to use it. I should buy some zucchini soon, thanks for the reminder! :) The kids like it as long as they don't see the green part of the zucchini. Zuc's are one of those things I can hide in tomato sauces and chili's and the kids don't know they're eating it, lol ;)

I have this bacon-bleu cheese chop-salad kit I bought to try, I thought it would go great with a steak. I might take my sirloin tip roast and cut it into steaks....will contemplate that for awhile, whether to go with a roast or steaks!
Drinking my coffee and wondering what to do today. There's ice to scrape, doggy doo duty, dogs to walk....procrastinating, lol ;)

    Have a great day everyone!

I used to cut my own hair when I was younger. It was long fine and straight probably much easier to do than Shona's curly hair. Do you use "No More Tangles" Shona? My hair being fine would tangle like the dickens and it was pretty much all I could use to be able to comb or brush my hair.
I have never heard of pickle brined chicken before either, Janet. A great idea to make Meatball Soup to have on hand when you are expecting guests.
Very nice of your Uncle to sponsor Bri's softball team, Michelle.
I have a hand spiralizer I keep forgetting to use as well, Shona. How is Pete feeling today? Let us know which one steak or roast you decide to do. Lol @ doggy doo duty:)
A cute way to describe doing that.
We are going to have Mac & Cheese for dinner with a salad.
    Wishing everyone a nice day!

Hi Janet. Looked at http://allrecipes.com/recipe/238385/pickle-brine-chicken/ but didn't stay long enough to really let the steps sink in. It sounds interesting. Not particularly unhealthy - of course, you do realize bacon is a separate food group all of its own, and if it is uncured it is a very healthy ingredient - LOL. [Grinning]. I have not heard of bacon dust. Or ranch dressing dust either. Must be my Midwestern down home mentality. Ha ha. Love your posts, you open the door to cooking techniques that are different than I am used to.

Michelle, hope you have a nice time with your uncle. Great that he is sponsoring the team!

Shona, several people are having problems with AllRecipes and on the few times I look there the frustration level is unreal. I can still access my recipes, and am slowly copying the recipes I REALLY want to try. You should be able to access it - my old iPad II can still locate it, and it is ANCIENT. Good luck getting in to retrieve your recipes. Bacon - blue cheese salad - yipes - so good sounding. Except Wayne would not touch the blue cheese so I would have to have it on a day he staying over.

Two turkeys strolled into the yard and helped themselves to the corn piles. They were large hens and I guess the word is spreading - free food! Unfortunately, we think a couple of wild hogs were checking the area the other night. Saw some incriminating tracks but the game camera we put out did not function, so have to try again. Blondie has been back and a couple of times I walked outside only to surprise him at the bottom of the porch steps -- he waddled off as fast as he could. Glad to know he is still around.

I had two cups of coffee this morning. It must be a mild blend because the caffeine didn't seem to get to me as much. Decided to mix lemon slices, grated fresh ginger, and honey, and put a tbsp. in a cup and added hot water. It is supposed to be a healthy drink that fights colds etc. etc. etc. -- think I need to tweak the recipe a bit, there are some on AR and probably GR as well, but I just "winged it."

Wayne is at a chiro appointment. I guess I should go fix something for lunch so he can grab a bite before his buddy gets here to do some work.

SP Joce. Doggie doo duty must be an ongoing task. Ha ha .Homer would just race into the forest and do this business, then come back into the yard. Smart dog. Unlike the others we have had that stopped two feet from the porch! One of our acquaintances was laughing because his city-living friend bought an acreage near him and always carried the doggie-deposit sack when she walked her pooch in the woods.

Hi Joce, I have some leave in conditioner that I spray in my hair. I can only comb through it when it's wet and use the spray conditioner, and air dry. Poor Sophia has my hair, and it's a chore every morning! Spray with water, then conditioner, comb through with my fingers as she screams if I comb it. I keep hers short so it doesn't tangle as much. I put my hair up in a messy bun every day unless I go out, lol ;)
Pete seems a little better, he still went to work these past couple of days, it's all in his sinuses now. He's going to stay with a friend this weekend, they are going to a concert in Edmonton. So I really hope he'll be fine in a couple days! They are old friends from Vancouver that moved here a few years before we did. They're about 2 hours away. Their birthdays are close together and Shawn's wife bought them tickets for the show (Corb Lund and the Hurtin' Albertans) They have some pretty funny songs :) We like to trade play dates with our husband's and have them out of our hair for a weekend now and then, lol ;)

Hi Karen, ugh--I could rant about AR all day! I had to quit the allstar program because of the slow access. My internet is the problem- most likely! My parents have the Magic Jack phone-via interent--and they can barely hear me because I cut out all the time, but they have no problem contacting my brothers as they have proper high speed. If I open up a recipe from there, I walk away for awhile as it can take 5 minutes to open, if it opens at all. Too frustrating for me! Lol @ the dog business, our little one likes to go close to the house. The big dog likes to run around and go by the trees at least. Here, it's on snow and frozen, I need to get it before the thaw/melt! :S

good luck with your job list shona. both roast and steaks sound good. glad pete is feeling a little better. sounds like he has a fun weekend planned! it's a shame all recipes is giving so many such a difficult time. :( slow downloads are painful!
your dinner for this evening sounds wonderful joce. i love mac'n cheese but unfortunately jim does not so i rarely get it. :(

We had leftover lasagna for lunch. Wayne and his buddy are outside doing whatever work that needs done. His appt. went good. The treatments are doing better than the Dr. thought they might.

My arthritis decided to move into the wrist area so it is difficult to even chop or slice food. Much less use a fork. Ugh! I have a brace on it now. Will probably see what the Dr. T. can come up with to help. Refuse to take pain pills on general principles unless it gets really BAD, which is isn't.

One of the little deer is in the yard but the turkeys and birds got to the corn already. He needs to adjust his schedule. The guys are hammering away on the other side of the house and it is totally oblivious. So cute.
