Today is Christmas

Forgive the title. My mind is fogged from early rising and putting the pig to roast.
We will gather with family today for the big meal and opening gifts, all the "secular" image of the holiday. Christmas Eve service was wonderful, inspiring, even with a two hour trip each way. The rain on the downward trip changed to clear skies on the way home.

Even the skeptical oldest GS is looking forward to coming up for Christmas. I hope they like the experiment -- wild boar is not something I have tried before. And I got chicken breasts, not thighs as I said earlier, so will have to try something different when time to bake them. They are thawing as we speak. Optimism says they will be thawed in time.

Pix are of the sun room.

"May God bless us every one."

Merry Christmas Karen! Merry Christmas Everyone!
Glad to hear you enjoyed the Christmas Eve service. Glad you had clear skies for the way home. The pictures are lovely. Your sun room is really nice and I can see why the cats always try get in there. :) Your tree is beautiful!
We had very high winds last night which knocked the power out around 2 a.m. As JIm and I were waking up around 7:30 it came back on. Thank goodness to the Hydro Elves who would have had to go out on call last night to get it back on in time for Christmas morning! :)
My Mom called first thing and Jim and I have had our coffee and opened presents. Time to rustle up some breakfast.
Wishing everyone a most beautiful day with friends and family.

Merry Christmas!! Glad your long trip to the Christmas Eve service was well worth it Karen :) I'm sure the boar and chicken will turn out delicious. Your sun room is very pretty!

Lol, lucky you having the power turn back on right when you wake up Janet :) Have a good trip today!

We got up EARLY to do Christmas. Michael is working nights so he got home at 5:30 and we got up then so he could get to sleep since he we have family coming over at noonish. I actually had woken up at 5 and couldn't go back to sleep anyway, so it wasn't as bad as I thought :) Kids are now settled down playing with toys non stop. I did end up throwing together a casserole last night, so this morning was easy peasy, and the kiddos got their cinnamon rolls. Tonight will not be traditional Christmas food, I've had enough lol! I may pull out some chicken or something, maybe a soup? Have a great day everyone!

Sounds like the walkie talkies were indeed a great gift for Rick Marie! :) Your carved bear sounds beautiful. I love stuff like that! Are you hosting a Turkey dinner today? CRAFT?
The kids probably wouldn't have minded up getting up early to open presents at all I'd imagine Michelle! :) Shift work is so hard on a body. Hope Michael gets enough sleep to see him through the day. :) What was the favourite gift of Bri's and Caiden's?
I got lovely gifts. My two faves are a Cordon Bleu Cookbook "In the Kitchen" and a pasta drying rack. My Mom gave me a Stainless steel pasta maker a year ago last August and I still haven't used it! Gotta get moving on that! :)

Merry Christmas Michelle! LOL, yes indeed when you have children, it's always an early wake up on Christmas Day..I added the pic of my bear..now, what shall his/her name be:)

Janet, I'm almost sorry I gave the walkie talkies to him..I've had to go outside in 33F weather to "test" them..he had to stay at his base station plopped in front of the warm fire..hahaha..now I'm hearing constant static..oy vey,
No, no turkey today! He's BBQ'ing ribs and I'll be making chicken and maybe stuffing along with vegs:) He had some ribs in the freezer so we went with that:) Wish your Mom a very Merry Christmas for us:)

Bri's favorite gift is her gaming laptop. The rest of her gifts was small, cheap stuff, that laptop was expensive!! Caiden's would probably be a little wooden tool bench he got:

It's adorable and he can actually build stuff on it and we can order more kits to build different stuff to make. I have a pasta maker that hooks into my Kitchen Aid. Used it once and it was delicious, glad you reminded me I have that lol!

I got 2 new nice non stick frying pans and a bacon press :)

Your bear is awesome Marie! I envy people who have such talent to create such cool things. :) LOL @ Rick needing to test his walkie talkies. I think you should have made him be the outside person though. :) OH YUM on chicken and ribs. That sounds awesome. Shall indeed pass on your Merry Christmas to my Mom. Thanks. :)
Oh yes! I remember now about Bri's gaming laptop. Very fun! That Project workbench of Caiden's is awesome! I'd even play with that for a bit myself. :) Being able to order more kits to build things with is so cool! I heard the Kitchenaid pasta maker attachments were amazing! Nice on the frying pans! A bacon press keeps the bacon weighted down in a pan so it doesn't curl right?

Janet, I volunteered to go outside! WTH was I thinking? haha

Michelle, how cool on the frying pans and bacon press..I love it:)

Ooooh on the power outage, Janet. At least it was at night. We have had it go out for 3 days, not so bad when you consider how some areas in MO do without during the infamous January ice storms. I have considered getting a pasta pan - we have a pasta maker but it is a Ronco junk one that keeps breaking - let me know how yours works out.

Marie and Michelle - even big boys like their toys! LOL. Walkie talkies are so cool and quite useful when you live on a farm / acreage. I usually go honk the truck horn 3 times if an emergency arises (fire call, house on fire, stampeding elephants, the like), which he USUALLY hears even at the far end of the place. Shift work is hard on people - hope he can get some more sleep after company leaves. The bear is adorable, Marie.

Wayne and I have decided to get our presents after Christmas, because we were too busy to stop and do it before - ha ha ha. Bad us! He would like a decent sounding CD player / maybe radio combination for use in the sun room, I would like a new, easy, senior friendly, sharp picture-taking, lightweight camera. Our canon is good but eats batteries like they are going out of style. So a trip to Springfield (Best Buy - yippee!) is in order.

I best get back to the dinner prep. Cranberries, desserts, wine, sparkling grape juice, sodas, and ugly deviled eggs (I never can get them to look pretty) are in the refrigerator. It overfloweth mightily. I still need to get the veggies ready to heat, the hash brown casserole together and the chicken spiced, and bake them at the same time. I told daughter that she will in charge of watching to be sure the rolls survive, since I am notorious at not remembering they are in the oven until far too late.

A hawk (red I think but didn’t look to see if I guessed right) is hollering outside. He / she can just keep on going. We saw a huge brown one on the place but I think this is the smaller redtail hawk. They are fascinating birds. Unless you have chickens.

    Merry Christmas everyone.

    Hello everyone and merry Christmas,
I've been so busy busy busy. Reading when I can but not posting sorry. Went to SIL last night brought stuffed mushrooms and deviled eggs. Geez ya think she could have picked something for me to bring that didn't require so much effort since I worked every day and night run get up until Christmas eve, thankfully I got out early and made them on Christmas eve.
I have 17 people for dinner today and then a few for just dessert. Lots of food. Way too many apps but that's what I like best. I have almost all cooked and on warmer so when people arrive I can just relax. And enjoy instead of standing in front of the oven.

Buying your presents after Christmas is actually a good idea as you will probably get some sales deals Karen. I have a little Canon camera and it comes with a flat battery and a recharger.I love it and use it ALL the time! Cool on the Hawks!
Merry Christmas Laurie! Yum on the stuffed mushrooms and devilled eggs. 17 people for dinner! Oh my Goodness! Don't work too hard. Take time to enjoy.
Just heading off. Will bring my laptop but am going to try not pull it out. :) See you in a couple of days.
    MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!

Christmas is over. Family has gone home and just called to say all was well. We cleaned up the kitchen and ran the DW and are now in the sun room. Wayne is considering taking a nap and I am on the laptop.

    Hi Joce!

The casserole was really good. I may cut the amount of sour cream next time but that is the only change I would make. The boar was wonderful - I took several ideas and changed some of it etc., and will add the recipe, although I didn't take a picture. I did the chicken breast in the oven with the casserole, then the rolls. Sent much of the sweets and not-on-the-diet stuff home with the kids. I am exhausted.
