Tulip Festival Friday!

  • chuckieb 5 years ago
Good Morning Everyone! It's another bright, sunny day here in Ottawa. Jim and I are heading to go see the Tulips at the Tulip Festival after breakfast. Will bring the bikes along and cover ground that way. I'm going to pack us a picnic lunch.
    Curried Crab Pitas
    and some of the
    Poor Mans Caviar
that I made up yesterday with nacho chips.

I may take a container of cabbage rolls out of the freezer to thaw while we're gone for dinner.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

    Good Morning Everyone!

It's a sunny day here too (at the moment) but that could change anytime. Hope it's not raining this afternoon, I have a vet appointment for Bella at 3:00.
I let DH pick the place last night when we went out to eat and of course he picked Da-Ru-Ma, the Japanese Hibachi place which I don't care for. I asked our table girl if they made the salad dressing in house or purchased it and she told me they make it in house. I asked if she would get me the recipe but she said she could only give me an ingredient list so I took it. I'll get the recipe somehow someway but this is the list: veg oil, vinegar, mustard powder, salt/pepper, soy sauce, garlic, lemon, onion, celery, and applesauce. She didn't say what type of vinegar and that's important. And I don't think it's the complete ingredient list because their dressing too is that orange color and there is nothing in the ingredient list that would make it orange ... and too where is the ginger?

Enjoy the Tulip Festival Janet. Are the tulips mostly potted or is it a park that has tons of tulips planted?

No idea about dinner just yet but it'll be something easy.

Good attempt to get the recipe for the dressing from the Japanese Hibachi place Linda. At least it's a start. Ottawa plants millions of tulips each spring in various parks around the main downtown core of the city. Here's a link. People come from all over to see them. It's quite a big thing.

Jim is having trouble getting the bike hitch on the car though so our attempt at going may be thwarted. Crossing my fingers.

Hi everyone. It's a sad day here in Santa Fe TX. There was a mass shooting at the high school. At least 9 dead and 12 in critical condition. My kids are home safe, but we are crushed and waiting to hear the list of fatalities to see if we know anyone. So sad :( I'll catch up later, can't keep my eyes off the news for longer than a couple minutes. I'll check back in later.

So scary. I heard about the shooting and thought “oh God, Michelle lives in Santa Fe” but I have no idea how big Santa Fe is to know how local the school is to you . Horrific none the less and this crap needs to stop.

Good evening and hello to all. Michelle, when I saw the shooting on the news I immediately thought, like Linda, my goodness, Michelle lives there! So, so tragic and sad. Prayers for all. Florida feels your pain!

Happy day for me as Michael has finally returned to the states from overseas this afternoon. He landed in Nashville around 4:00pm. So glad as his mission and training were not exactly safe for Americans in some of the countries he was in. He now has orders to move to Alaska. Not just go for a bit..........but move. He owns a home in Tennessee that he will have to figure out what to do with. He has two roommates so he's thinking of maybe trying to find a third as he has 3 bedrooms. The two he already have are military as well and he trusts them to take care of the property. Either that or rent it out to a family. He doesn't want to sell it because it's a brand new house and the only owner and loves it and the area. When he was first transferred up there he was told he would be stationed for at least 6 years. I don't think he's even been there for 3. Well......military! Can't always count on what they tell you as things come up! Not sure what happens now and if he will have time to come home before leaving for Alaska. Sure hope so, plus was looking forward to having him home at Christmas since he wasn't last year. But, who knows, he may be able to fly home then. We will see.

Ordering from our local fav pizza place tonight. Other than that, not much going on but relaxing on this Friday night.

Hope all enjoy their evening. And Michelle, again, prayers for your town and all involved.

    Sleep Safely Sweet all................as always...................

I googled Santa Fe and it's population is just over 13,000. They have a Jr. High School and one only High School grades 9-12. Bri doesn't attend that High School does she? I want to say she must be in Jr. High.

Well "HAPPY, HAPPY" Kimmer. You must be so thrilled and just smiling from ear to ear. That's kind of neat Michael is moving to Alaska (Jim's sister lives in Anchorage) although I understand it plays havoc with his Tennessee home ownership.I will keep my fingers and toes crossed for you that he gets to come home for a visit first. YUM on pizza. I could totally go for that.

Jim and I did make it to the Tulip Festival. Always lovely. Had a fun bike ride and a nice picnic lunch. The cabbage rolls are almost done and I found perogies in the freezer too so Jim is pleased.

Thank you everyone! Count is at 10 now, by now I don't think it will get any higher unless someone passes in the hospital. Bri is in 7th grade, the Junior High. There is also 2 elementary's and they are in the process of building another. There were also multiple homemade explosives found around the school and in surrounding areas. We were warned not to leave the house by the city because of them. We live about 10 minutes from the high school and the elementary's and Junior High is about 3 minutes away. Caiden actually went to school today (before I knew what was going on) and I picked him up as soon as they came off lock down. Bri wasn't going to school anyway because she was supposed to be getting her wisdom teeth cut out, but didn't end up getting them done. I'll explain later lol.

Fun on the tulip festival Janet, glad you finally made it! Yum on cabbage rolls and perogies :)

I wonder if the vinegar is rice vinegar in the dressing Linda? That would seem most likely to me? But yes, the orange color would have me guessing the list.

Glad to hear Michael is in the States Kimmer, that's awesome, but WOW on having to move to Alaska. Hopefully he will at least be at home for Christmas.
