What's Up Wednesday?!

  • mommyluvs2cook 7 years ago
Morning everyone!! It's a beautiful sunny day out today, and 75 degrees, woohoo! I'm sure it will only get hotter though. Gotta run a few errands today and I think I'm going to bake some cookies :)

Last night Caiden had a Cub Scout meeting then we were able to make it to Bri's last 30 minutes of her second game. In that time period Caiden managed to get hurt. Eva, a little girl who is secretly "a bully" supposedly pushed him down. He busted his eyebrow open slightly. It bled a lot, and I brought him straight home to look at it better because it was dark and the lighting wasn't good, and it wasn't as bad as I thought, but I still took him next door to my neighbor who is a nurse. She said she didn't think it would need stitches, but to keep butterfly stitch bandages on it and watch it. This morning when I took off the bandages it looked better and wasn't open anymore. His arm is also very sore, I guess he landed on it funny or something, but I don't see any swelling in it. The cut looks worse than it is because it has dried blood all over it that I can't get it off without rubbing hard.

The girl who I think did it is always doing mean things when nobody is looking, then lies to her Mom or blames someone else for it and her Mom always believes her. All the other kids plus Caiden said it was her, but of course when I talked to the Mom (actually my pretty good friend) I told her that Caiden said it was Eva (her daughter) and she of course said Eva had told her a different story and didn't know what to believe. Whatever!

Anyway! Don't have a clue what for dinner, gotta go raid the freezer :)

Pic. below of Caiden eyebrow this morning, some of it is dried blood.

Good Morning All! Wishing everyone a great day.

That's not right Michelle! I'd be so hopping mad as that looks like a nasty cut and too the possibility of scaring. You raise your kids to be good people and then this ... I'd be on guard for sure around Eva! or I'd pop her one myself when nobody is looking.

Yesterday when DH's speech therapist was here he got thru to her that he wanted more physical therapy sessions which stunned us both so we are getting back on schedule for 3x a week for that. He wants to "work out" and since he doesn't listen to me or accept my help and guidance it'll be good for him to have someone to do it with. He'll still do his therapy at home because we can not do home for speech and outpatient for physical but we will figure out his workout routine here and he does have some free weights.
Also trying to get his fine motor skills more developed with his hand.
I'm going to try soon to get to our amenity center's physical fitness room myself soon, just waiting for this annoying dry cough that is still stuck in my throat to leave. I would see if DH wants to come but I don't need him overdoing it and getting hurt.

Looks like another nice day and will grill something. Not sure what I'm in the mood for. Hoping maybe later today to run over to Costco and see what fish they have as I only have 2 pieces of salmon left in the freezer. Need to get something.

I also want to give fermenting veggies a try. They are suppose to be a powerhouse of good stuff. I'll read up more on the whole process before jumping in.

    Good Morning!
Gee Michelle that does look nasty! I would be maybe keeping my camera on Eva and maybe she will get caught red handed then. She obviously has problems and parents who cover up for their kids in situations like that are in for trouble in the end. Grr! It just makes me so angry to hear something like that! I hope it heals quickly poor guy!

Nice to hear your DH is making enough progress that he wants to do more, Linda. Very good news indeed!

Nothing much happening around here today. It is sunny but very cold with a nasty wind! We are having a small ham for dinner with cheesy scalloped potatoes and steamed green beans.

    Wishing everyone a great day!

Good Morning everyone! Goodness Michelle, that's a nasty cut on Caiden's eye. I'd be pretty upset and Jim would be livid. :( It's tough the girl's Mother is a friend of yours. I don't envy you your position. We went through bullying at school with Benjamin and it was horrid.

That's great your DH communicated his desire for more physical therapy sessions Linda. The amenity centre fitness room should be nice and handy. What kind of equipment does it have? Keep us tuned on the fermenting vegetables. The only ones I'm really familiar with are sauerkraut, pickles and kimchi and I LOVE all three of them.

Lovin' your dinner plans Joce. I was thinking how nice it is that Easter is coming and that I'd like to do up a ham dinner for it.

Jim and I did our workout and then I made smoothies. I had a crumpet with raspberry jam and Jim had a sesame seed bagel. Hit the spot.

Jim decided last night that he REALLY dislikes salmon. LOL. He's never been a huge fan but he has eaten it for years and has tried to eat more of it the last couple of years as he knows it's good for him. But last night he just said "That's it. I don't like salmon". What a shame. I can still buy myself some from time to time but it is a pain to do two meals for two people. He does like rainbow trout and haddock so we'll go with that. And for this evening he requested Fish tacos with haddock so there you go. :) Men!

Lovely sunshiny day out but as you say Joce, it's Brrrrrrrrrrr......

Jim and I are going to go drop our taxes off to our Financial Planner and then pick up a disk of old photos I had done up. I had a TON of old negatives and no idea what was on them so brought them in to this guy I know who runs a Photography shop and he said he could make them up on a disk. I'm very excited to see what they are. Bet there's some good stuff. :)

What a shame Jim has decided he doesn't like salmon, Janet. Den will eat canned salmon, tuna and fish sticks and that is about it in the fish area. Cool on the photography shop doing that. Can he do it from slides as well? I would be very interested in doing that as well. Let me know how they turn out. I would love to know the name of the shop as well.

Duh! A change of plans we are having stew for dinner as I forgot I took some stewing beef out to thaw last night which is still in the fridge. I am thinking I also may try my hand at some soda bread too!

Hi Linda! I was very mad, and Michael was fuming. It all happened near the end of the game and was so hectic we really didn’t have a chance to find out all what happened, and of course Eva was pulling off being an innocent angel really well. All the other parents know how she is though except her Mom, who thinks all her kids can do no wrong and believes any lie they tell them. Emma (Bri’s best friend on her team) is her other daughter. I love her to death but I have caught her too in little white lies that her Mom let’s her get away with. Their Dad is never around. He just sits at home and does nothing. Tamara (the girl’s Mom) just say’s he’s not social and hates to be around people. Okay?! Good for DH getting through to his therapist about more sessions, that’s awesome!! Sounds like everything is coming along well, that’s a good idea to keep him out of the fitness room, baby steps. Can’t wait to hear more about fermenting veggies, they are supposed to be pretty awesome :)

Yum on your dinner Joce, cheesey scalloped potatoes are one of Michael’s favorites and I hardly ever make them because the kids hate them for some reason :\

Darnit on finding out Jim doesn’t like salmon lol. Well, at least he tried, so we’ll give him that :) Too cool on the old negatives, I bet you’ll find some great memories on them. A couple years ago we found a few rolls of film in a box that was never developed. When we got them developed one was from when I was pregnant with Briauna and we were just taking silly belly pics and the other was from right after she was born and it had snowed in TX and we were “showing” her the snow and writing messages in the snow.

Decided to run by the meat market after my errand and I got a ton of chicken breast, some fryer chickens, 5 lbs.of bacon, fresh Italian sausage and fresh boudin. I’m always surprised at how great of a price their meat is, and it is so good! So tonight will be chicken something :)

Oh no on Jim not liking Salmon Janet. My husband did the same thing with broccolini ... I had been making it for a few years and he had been eating it and then one day he just decided he didn't like it. Perhaps when you make salmon for yourself you can prepare another fish the same way for him.
Nice on the photos. Can't wait to hear what they are of. When my mom passed I found 2 rolls of movie film that I have no idea what's on them. I keep saying I want to take them someplace to have it put on DVD but it's expensive but I should do it.

Beef stew sounds good Joce. Soda bread is so easy to make. Just don't over stir/knead it. You can also add herbs or cheese to just about any recipe too.

It's a complicated situation you are in with Eva, Michelle. Is she older than the other kids? And probably things going on at home that nobody is talking about. What about an anonymous phone call into the school counselor, wouldn't be surprised if she is picking on kids at school too. I'm furious that she is getting away with it as I have no tolerance for bullies.

DH is hell bent on going to the gym so I'll see which one he wants to go to (our fitness center or the one we have a membership to). I'll have to keep a very close eye on him and we will see how it goes. Sometimes he just needs to learn the hard way (within reason).

Ugh on the bully child, Michelle.

In today's world kids are taught not to hit etc., when I was growing up it was also taught but we were told we could fight back if provoked. I wonder if Caiden should be advised to clobber this particular girl the next time she does this. A good dose of her own medicine night just help.

Daughter was perhaps a bit too apt to retaliate--hem hem-- she grabbed a garter snake and chased one little boy who constantly bothered her. He probably liked her and this his way of teasing her to get attention. There was another boy who wanted her to take off her shorts, so she kicked his knee hard and he changed his mind ASAP.

Loved the camera idea. Then invite the parents over and show "movies of the team" where you have captured her in action. I saw this on one tv program, The Nanny, and loved it.

Meanwhile, Linda, there are many times that I fold my hands behind my back when bratty kids are acting up .... resisting temptation!

Back again after lunch. Fixed lasagna for the guys. Forgot GS was to come up to "help" so hope to get him up tomorrow. Daughter's car will cost $500.

Too bad Jim dislikes salmon, Janet. Will he eat tuna salad?

Wayne and Den sound a lot alike, Joce. He won't eat fish sticks and does not like any fish except some salmon once in a rare while and canned tuna.

I best go outside and work on weeding the garden some more. Fritz can come along. If I stay inside I will fall asleep. Ha ha.

    Have a nice day.

That child is in for a rude awakening one of these days, Michelle. I volunteered and worked at the school when ours were younger. I called it "The my child wouldn't do that syndrome". I remember being on an outing and one of my charges was a girl just like that. She tripped and bugged the boys until one of them retaliated and then she came to me crying. I told her that I had been watching and that she got what she deserved and after that she left the boys alone. I'm sorry that Caiden had to go through that, it's so unfair. Happy that it isn't serious.
That's wonderful news, Linda. Perhaps things have turned a corner, I'm praying that it so. I like Costco for fish but it isn't close to me. Fingers crossed that you get rid of that cough.
I've never heard of fermenting veggies but I will google it later.
I totally agree with you Joce. That wind is brutal, I barely slept last night with things rattling around outside. Oh yum. another of my favourites. I love stew, gotta have dumplings though.
That's unfortunate that Jim doesn't like salmon, Janet. Joe didn't for years and then one day requested it. Oh, how fun about the negatives. I have a bunch of old rolls of film that were never developed and not a clue what to do about them.
That's not a bad price for a car repair, Karen. Yum, lasagna. I've always taught our children not to hit others but sometimes it's the only thing that will work. Bullies will continue doing what they do cause it works.
Joe has gone to the retirement home to straighten out an issue. One of the workers was annoyed with MIL and set the alarm on her clock. She isn't used to this and when it went off she freaked. She thought that there was a fire or something. The worker returned, eventually, and told her that the clock wasn't working and took the batteries out. MIL freaked because she has to know what time it is. This happened yesterday but the person in charge wasn't there.
Dinner will be pizza, I'll start the dough in a few. Toppings will be Italian sausages, pepperoni, peppers, mushrooms and sweet onion.

Good idea on Janet preparing 2 different fish the same way Linda, that would definitely make things easier! Eva is 9 so she is 3 years older than Caiden. She's big for 9 also which doesn't help. She is in a totally different school than Caiden also, so I don't have to worry about her picking on him there, but I do wonder if she is doing it to other kids there. Another incident that happened last weekend with her was at Bri's tournament. Caiden had just gotten a small guitar from our trip to San Antonio that he loved. He brought it with him to the tourney and he was letting all the kids play with it. At one point he ran up to me crying saying that Eva had smashed it on the ground. I looked at it and it had a big crack in the side. She denied it all the way saying that he had left it on the ground and that she had accidentally stepped on it. UGH! Good luck with DH at the gym, I agree, keep a close eye on him!

Lol Karen, I think that is a good thing your daughter took up for herself, at least they stopped bothering her!! Good luck weeding :)

Oh wow Bren, so the worker set your MIL's alarm clock just to get back at her for annoying him?? Hope your husband get's it all straightened out. Yum on your Italian pizza!

Got the cookies all made up, made a batch of regular chocolate cookies and a batch of GF chocolate cookies. I tried both and actually think the GF one's are better lol, and I think Michael and Bri will agree if I can get them to try the GF one's haha :P I'm hoping everyone coming home to fresh baked cookies today, will make the craziness from last night a little better :)

Ugh on the nasty worker, Bren, he/she should be fired immediately -- harrassing older people in a nursing / assisted living type home is beyond toleration. Can you get her a basic clock that does not have an alarm feature? I would definitely blow a gasket if some employee acted like that to a relative of mine. Maybe consider a different establishment if the employee stays on?

My parents also told us NOT TO START it but to stand up for ourselves. It is the only way to stop bullying behavior. I agree the "my child wouldn't do that" syndrome is alive and well in the parenting world. One day after church our daughter came running up and said a boy (nice kid, no bully) threw koolaid on her dress. His mom was so apologetic. I just said, "It takes two." Both of us moms were careful to arrange for the two to not be together for too long a time, however. Ha ha.

Ended up typing fire department notes. Instead of going outside. GS will be here tomorrow and I can be outside with him if needed. Plus it should be 72 F, nice.

Good afternoon all. OMG! That is awful what happened to your poor MIL. I'd be straightening things out all right! When a friend of mine's mother was in a nursing home years ago, there were some instances of possible abuse but nothing could be proven. The people in charge of the home insisted that she was either making things up or was just confused. They did eventually removed her from there and found a much better place. But in the meantime they developed a code with her mother. Told her mother if something was going on to call my friend or another family member and ask them to bring her some yellow jello. That would mean something was happening or had happened that wasn't right and they would get there right away. The words yellow jello was something the mother could remember easy. The reason for the code was many times workers would be in the room with her while she would make the call. Either dialing for her or whatever. So sad and you just never know sometimes. Again, that was many years ago and hopefully regulations have improved since then.

Poor Caiden, Wow! She'll get her come upins one of these days! Cayce had a problem with a bully when he was in preschool, age 4. This boy was constantly badgering him and knocking him around and never would get caught or would just lie and say Cayce started it. One of the main things he would do is when Cayce would be walking past the boy's desk he would stick his leg out and trip him. Why the teacher didn't see is beyond me. He would also trip him and things like that on the playground. Well I went to the Director of the school and nothing seem to happen. Finally after seeing my kid come home with cuts and bruises I told Cayce the next time he touched him to "DECK HIM"! Well, it happened! The boy tripped him for the very last time and Cayce wacked him upside the head. I got in major trouble with the director cause I said ya, I told him to do it, lol! The boy never bother Cayce again and it's actually funny, later in life, I think middle school the two boys became the best of friends! Before that I had already been looking into a new school for him but hey, didn't have to move him after all, lol!

Homemade pizza sounds good. Need to put that on the short list. Haven't had one in a while. We are having lasagna today here too, only for dinner. Will make some garlic bread and a nice fresh salad. Had to go to the grocery earlier for salad stuff as my lettuce and such was looking quite weepy and there seemed to be a gagle of people and confusion in front of the tomatoes. So I just squeezed in and grabbed what I thought were just basic slicing tomatoes. Was horrified at the check out that I had grabbed organic tomatoes at $4.99 a pound! Picked 3 big ones and when I saw $9.28 come up on the screen I nearly had a heart attack! I should have asked the clerk to remove them but I think I was still in shock and just paid and left. Holy Moly! Them damn well better be good tasting tomatoes tonight!!!

Enjoy the rest of the day all!!! If I don't get back, Sleep expensively and organically sweet all...........as always............... (Darn things will probably give me heartburn, lol!)

Joce, the company I dealt with for the negative to digital images was Germotte Photo & Framing. Here's the link to their FB page.
    https://www.facebook.com/pg/germotte.photo.framing.studio/about/?ref=page_internal
You could email him (his name is Ziad) but I don't know if he'll do it. You can ask. He and his wife live not far from Jim and I and we've known them since Benjamin was just little as his sitter was a neighbour of theirs. He also did Benjamin's Grad Photos. He is the nicest guy in the world. He did it as a favour to us. He and his wife have just opened up a brand new store in Westboro specializing in framing. His wife had initially said "No" to my asking if Ziad could change over the negatives but Ziad said to leave it with him and he'd work on it when he got time. I do have another contact in Kanata who does that type of thing and definitely does slides. I know his name is Bill Werba but I forget the business name. I'll get you more info. Jim used him to transfer old VCR tapes on to DVD's. I just stepped in the door so haven't looked at the photos yet. I'm very excited. Stew and soda bread is a perfect meal for this cold March day!

Awww on the old rolls of film you found and developed Michelle. That's very fun. Treasure! Oooo you did well at the Meat Market! That is good news that Eva goes to a completely different school. Fresh baked cookies do solve a lot of issues. :)

And you have old movie film you'd like to switch over as well Linda. It is a lot of fun and priceless really. Good luck at the gym.

A $500 car bill isn't too bad Karen. Neither Jim nor I are big tuna fans.

ROFL @ "The my child wouldn't do that syndrome" Bren. That's hilarious. Depends on what kind of camera it was taken on but Costco also prints out old rolls of film into pictures at a decent price. Oh dear with the alarm clock. The person who set the alarm needs a talking to. :) Your pizza sounds awesome.

The 'yellow jello' story is a sad one Kimmer but good they moved her to a nicer place eventually. So scary! Oh goodness at the price of the organic tomatoes. Maybe they'll taste so good you'll continue to buy them. :)

We got our taxes dropped off and picked up my photos and we also decided to bring the car in for it's Fuel emissions test which it passed. Hurray. Went for lunch at "Fusion Kanata" and then I went to Walmart and found some mini hollow bunnies to use for Easter dessert with Bailey's Irish cream. Now I just have to cross my fingers I manage to lop off the ears without crumbling the rest of the rabbit. I think I'll use a coping saw. LOL.

He's back but nothing really came of it as it's her word against theirs and because of the dementia they are backing up their workers. Yes, we do need to get her out of there and she's on several waiting lists but they are long lists. Good idea about getting another clock but she treasures her things that she's had for years. Another good idea about a "code" but I doubt that she would remember the code. She's at the point where she confuses the boys and they don't look alike.
Michelle, surely your friend must see a pattern here?
Good for you, Kimmer. LOL, sometimes a smack upside the head is all that they understand. Holy cow on the price of those tomatoes, that happened to me once with Asian pears and I did the same thing.
I didn't know that, Janet, thanks so much. I'll take them in the next time that I'm at Costco.
Gotta run, the timer is going off.

My mother use to call it the "smoking gun" syndrome. Somebody could be standing there with a smoking gun and the other person still wouldn't see or acknowledge it.

I was the person who stuck up for the kids being bullied and would call the bully out. They didn't like it too much when the kid they singled out suddenly had support and then once I stood up others would stand up to. I say Caiden "pops" her one next time she even gets near him. And I like your idea Karen of keeping an eye on her with some type of video taping, no disputing it then. I would never pop a kid but dam if I wouldn't tell my kid to if someone started.

$500 isn't so bad to get DD car fixed. Hope that's the end of it once it's fix and no more problems Karen.

I'm so envious of your pizza dinner tonight Bren! As Kimmer said, must put it on the short list. Not cool on the worker harassing your MIL like that. If the place she is staying at doesn't do something about it I'd be looking to report them to whoever oversees them. What is with bullies!! &$)@+!

Lasagna sounds good too Kimmer. Yikes on picking up the organic tomatoes, as you said they better be all that.

Took DH to the gym we have a membership at and he did well. Didn't over-do it and seemed to be familiar with how to use the machines. I kept an eye on him but I didn't have to stay on top of him which was nice because I was able to work out myself. I didn't over-do it either considering I haven't been to the gym in 3 months.
After we did a Costco run and picked up Wild Halibut, unfortunately farmed raised salmon and steelhead trout, a package of 4 steaks, 2 eye roasts, a whole roaster chix, and a twin pack of ground bison. I'm set now for awhile. I wish they would carry more wild caught fish. I'm going to have to look for another source.
Grilled one of the steaks for dinner and we split it because they are big. Steamed some asparagus and am now going to go sit down after I have one or two of some homemade coconut oil chocolate I made yesterday.
