seeking advice with 'better than sex cake'

  • boisedev 16 years ago
I am planning to make a 'better than sex' cake this weekend for my boyfriend's birthday. for those that are unfamiliar, its a plain box cake with condensed milk, caramel, (sometimes hot fudge), whipped topping, and heath bars. the condensed milk and other toppings are poured over the cake after you bake it.

but I'm worried that it will be too sweet for us!

So i plan on using a sour cream cake base (its a moist cake), forgoing the condensed milk, and then adding the hot fudge, caramel, whipped topping, and heath bars.

any advice on this? i cant find a recipe to support this so I'm just following my taste buds and instinct. but i'm worried that the condensed milk is needed for moisture. should i substitute something? do you think i could spread sour cream over the hot cake after it bakes instead? perhaps buttermilk would work?

i'd appreciate any advice you can provide. thanks!

Why not try mixing about 1/2 can of the sweetened condensed with the sour cream, heating it for just a BIT in the microwave to consistency-----then pouring it over the cake?

I've had the BTS cake before, and it's wonderful. The SCM doesn't over power at all...

If you didn't want to have it too sweet for your palate, what you might do is make the cake itself less sweet....like mixing up a scratch cake? Then using the SCM as called for in the formula.

That or you could for sure use whipped cream instead of the coolwhip, and use less sugar there as well.

Lots of ways around one barn as Daddy used to say!! :-)

I will try mixing in the SCM with sour cream - i hadn't thought of that. And good to know the BTS cake is not too sweet as is.
