Stewed Ladybug Spinach

When my son was little one of his favourite dishes was and still is Creamed Spinach (Hungarian style) My husband will eat it but it is not his favourite but what can I say-the kid was 4 years old and Garry had to set an example right? When Martin was a little boy he loved to help in the kitchen and so I had him help me stir the spinach just before I was ready to plate the dinner. Anyway wouldn't you know it but Garry's portion had a Ladybug in it (not one of the usual ingredients to Hungarian Creamed Spinach) Of course he mentioned about the Ladybug and Martin pipes up and says yes he saw it there when he was stirring. When we asked why he didn't mention it earlier he said that he thought that I'd put it there on purpose-you see I am a bit of a Ladybug collector. We still chuckle about it that the one person who wasn't that crazy about the spinach to begin with was the one that ended up with the bug. Sort of like a cat making a B-line to the 1 person in the room who hates cats and jumping in their lap.

I'm half Hungarian and everthing my mom makes she claims it's Hungarian. So, I'm 100% positive that ladybug is a Hungarian ladybug that flew in from Budapest.

mrgresch, have you seen the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" ? They think everything comes from Greece. Hungary is close to Greece so it came in from Hungary VIA Greece,LOL

recipes, I have seen that movie and the guy who always used windex and claimed everything was greek is a male version of my Mother. She'll make rouladen, add paprika and claim it's a Hungarian dish.

I love the innocence of kids. When you want to speak up, they don't and when you wish they would keep quiet, well . . . .
