The 1998-99 school year was a difficult one for me. At the end of the year, I was exhausted. So much so, I did not move for 10 days other than than to drag my butt to an Allman Brother's concert. Eventually, I settled into summer mode. To that end, I began umpacking the big bag of stuff I hauled home on the last day.

I've always been amazed that students give their teachers gifts. I am a public school teacher. I am paid. Growing up, other than my father doing my fourth grade teacehr's horoscope, I cannot fathom having ever giving a gift to a teacher. It just wasn't done. But over the years I have learned about the generosity of others and I have been the recipient of many gifts just for teaching someone. Unbelievable!

Anyhow, this particular year, as I dug through the neckties, the baseball memoriablia, etc. I came across a $10 gift certificate and menu for Luighi's. This is not a place I would have normally gone to as it is in North Vineland and I am in South Millville. Nevertheless, as a single man, I was willing to drive. It seemed like a waste to order a pizza and not use the entire $10, so I looked over the specialty pizzas for something. Liking new and different foods, I spotted the chicken barbecue pizza and ordered it.

I recall having shrimp on a pizza in Delaware once. Other than that, I am pretty much a traditionalist when it comes to pizza. I don't ever recall having had chicken on a pizza before.

I picked up the pizza and drove it home. The aroma was so good, I nearly stopped and ate the pizza roadside. I devoured the entire thing once home. It was delicious!

Luighi's became a regular stop for me. Then I met my wife who lived in North Vineland and we ended up dining there frequently over the years. A couple years back, the former convenience store was expanded to a real restaurant look. They now have the pizza joint as a separate entrance. The name changed to Marciano's, the owners' family name.

The menu was always traditional Italian and quite good too. This is a regular stop for our family. The portions are sizable, the prices reasonable, and the taste delicious! We still like the chicken barbecue pizza, but I often have seafood or other Italian favorites here as well.

The restaurant caters well to families and it is always pleasant to bring the children along with us. Gert is fond of the tiramisu here.
