Many years ago while visiting my folks, my father recommended we try The Melting Pot. We liked it enormously and have dined in several different ones since. This experienced fostered our love for fondue and we use our three pots regularly at home. Yum, to fondue. Unfornately, the closest Melting Pot is more than an hour away and now with small children, it is not convenient to dine there as we would like. This summer I found out there was a Simply Fondue much closer to us and decided to surprise my wife with our back-to-school dinner out. I was most disappointed. The menu and the staff recommend the traditional approach to the dinner and we obliged. I wish we hadn't. Simply Fondue's traditional approach is to fried fondue. Instead of a broth, they use canola oil. Yuck! And it tasted just as nasty. Frying is not what we consider fondue. It was messy, not particularly appetizing, and it is certainly not healthy. We began our meal with a very good cheddar fondue. I would have preferred the swiss, but Gert wanted this and we enjoyed it immensely. Then we had the messy oil and all the accompaniments. We shared beef tenderloin, roasted garlic chicken, Jamaican jerk chicken, mahi-mahi, coconut crusted shrimp, and rosemary garlic chicken. The beef and the Jamaican jerk chicken were the best of the lost. We finished with a peanut butter chocolate fondue. It was good, but we thought the plate of what to dunk was uninspiring. The cake fell apart. The pineapple was good, but too few. The restaurant was cold and the guests were dressed shabbily. While I wore a jacket and tie, those next to us were in T-shirts, sweatshirts, jeans, and sneakers. Service was slow and not particularly talented. We found the prices to rival The Melting Pot, but the experience to be far worse. We will not return.

My husband and I and many of our friends totally disagree with this review. We are repeat customers and the food is always consistently fresh and good. First of all, a Four Course Meal per person is only $37 not 50-75?
I would have to say that our favorite form of entertainment is dining out and have been to countless gourmet restaurants in metropolitan trendy cities. We have been to the other fondue restaurant chain mentioned in 7 or more states and like Simply Fondue much better. There are more choices, more variety, the salads and homemade dressings are awesome. The food and sauces are better seasoned and fresher. Overall more flavor. The decor is swanky, warm and inviting rather than the cold dungeoness feeling of the others. Okay, I can understand not liking to cook in oil, but we love it. You have other options. They have 5 broths and a new fondue grill for an alternative choice. With the oil, we get to batter our food, and get extras like the "to die for" stuffed mushroom caps and jalapeno poppers, etc. Wouldn't miss that opportunity for broth. They are always adding new items to the menu too, which is great for frequent diners. Too bad for your experience there. We will continue to go there. We always have a blast!
