Apple Brandy Bars

- Crust: shopping list
- 1/2 cup shortening shopping list
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon pure almond extract shopping list
- 1/4 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 cup flour shopping list
- Filling: shopping list
- 2 large eggs shopping list
- 1 cup packed brown sugar shopping list
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract shopping list
- 1/3 cup apple brandy shopping list
- 1/3 cup flour shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1 cup chopped toasted almonds shopping list
- 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and diced shopping list
How to make it
- 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and lightly grease a nine-inch square pan.
- 2. Crust: Cream the shortening, extracts and sugar together in a small bowl. Add the one cup flour and mix well. Spread in the bottom of the prepared pan and bake for 15 minutes.
- 3. Filling: In a large bowl, beat the eggs and brown sugar together until thick. Add the two teaspoons vanilla and brandy. Mix well until totally incorporated.
- 4. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the filling egg mixture, stirring well after each addition. Fold the walnuts and apples into the mixture.
- 5. Spread the filling over the cooked crust and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the filling is set. Cool in the pan and cut into bars. Store in an airtight container
