For Cats:

Bast of beauty and grace, Protectress of the feline race, Shield (name of pet) from all hurt and harm And keep him/her always safe and warm. Watch over (name of pet) from day to day, And guide him/her home, if she/he should stray. And grant him/her much happiness And a good life free of strife and stress.

For Dogs:

Diana, Goddess of the Wild, Keeper of the dogs both fierce and mild, Hold (name of pet) safely in Your arms And protect this creature from all harm. And should the day come that he/she roams Guide him/her to the path back home. Bless (name of pet) with a joyful life Free of hardship, stress and strife.

For Fish:

Oh, fishtailed Goddess Melusine, One of the Watery Depths, serene, Protect my fish and keep them safe From fungus, wounds, and all ill-fate.Keep them free of all disease And let them swim with grace and ease. Bless them with Your loving care, Guard them, Melusine -- Hear my prayer.

For Birds:

Rhiannon, flap Your wings and rise -- Grant (name of pet) a happy life. Shield him/her as he/she flies about And protect him/her night and day, throughout. Wrap him/her safely in Your wings And give him/her happy songs to sing.

For Spiders:

Arachne of the maze, Grant that my beloved pets live out their lives in peace and contentment May they always feel safe and loved May every moment of their lives be without stress Weave them in Your web of care for all time.

For Snakes:

Angitia, goddess of all snakes and healer of all venom Watch over my cherished ones, giving them no cause for alarm Grant their existence be of wonder and worth Feed them with Your magic that all their days be loving and all their nights be calm.

For Horses:

Epona, goddess who shapes Herself as a white horse Bless my beloved beast at all times Grant that my horse be strong and healthy Give my horse a sweet disposition And see that my horse never suffer needless pain or hunger.

For Pigs:

Cerridwen, beautiful sow goddess, protect my beloved pig Give them a life of pleasure and service Grant that they have all that they crave And lead them to Your blessings every day.

For Rabbits:

Goddess Eostre, place Your blessings upon these rabbits Give them peace and love in their love Grant them the freedom to cavort And see that they always have all that they need to survive.

For Rodents:

Karni Mata, goddess of the Rajasthani, watch over these mice and rats As You do those in Your temple Give them the same freedoms and blessings that your devoted ones receive.

For Chickens:

Yemaya, goddess of chickens and ducks, bless them as they scratch their way across the farmyard. Give them enough to eat and clean fresh water to drink Give them the dignity they require to be offered in sacrifice.

For Geese:

Juno, mother of the gods, protector of geese, bless them today. Hear their song mightily sung and praise them in your temple. Grant them good health and long lives.

For Wolves:

Lupercus, god of the wolves, You who knew Romulus and Remus, as they were suckled by the shewolf in their infancy. Bless my pack with health and peace and loving dispositions. Keep them together as a family is bonded.

What a lovely, unusual post - not exactly a "recipe," but a sweet way to honor and cherish our pets. I especially love the kitty blessing, invoking the ancient Egyptian cat-goddess. (Do you know a blessing for creepy-crawlie pets? I have a friend who keeps pet tarantulas, and he would be thrilled if I could find him a prayer for his beloved eight-legged, much-misunderstood babies.)

I just have to comment again - you are so wonderful to add blessings for so many other animals! Every creature is special, and the ones who keep us company all deserve a prayer. The only pets who are still missing are iguanas, turtles and other reptiles. . . I bet you can find blessings for them, too. What a fantastic idea, thank you so much.
