How to make it

  • first version
  • 1. chop the cabbage
  • 2. grate carrot
  • 3. Mix cabbage and carrots, push harder
  • 4.heat water to dissolve it in salt and honey, cool it
  • 5. Put cabbage in enamel ware (you can use only an enamel or glass container)
  • 6.Add water (with honye and salt)
  • 7.Cover the container and put something heavy on top that
  • 8.Live it in the warm place for 3-4 days
  • Second version
  • 1. chop the cabbage
  • 2. grate carrot
  • 3. Mix cabbage and carrots, push harder
  • 4. Put cabbage in enamel ware (you can use only an enamel or glass container)
  • 5.Cover the container and put something heavy on top that
  • Every day pierce tcontainer with cabbage wooden stick in a few places.
  • 6.Live it in the warm place for 6-8 days
  • the first day will be a lot of liquid, following days will foam, do not worry :)) considered that the cabbage is ready when the foam disappears

    I've been looking for a recipe that doesn't call for a crap load of salt. This looks perfect. I have to go get more cabbage and see what happens!

    Does anyone know how to make sauerkraut directly in a canning jar?? My wonderful late mother in law used to make it and I do not have the recipe. It was so... easy and tasted fab

    My mom used to make this all the time! We are so used now to buying it canned from the store, that we don't even consider making it from scratch. Thanks for bringing back the memories and sharing this wonderful recipe!
