Seafood Hot Pepper Soup

- 1 pound fresh fish, any firm mild type, cut into medium pieces shopping list
- salt shopping list
- ground black pepper shopping list
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil shopping list
- 1 small onion, finely chopped shopping list
- 2 to 4 habanero peppers, seeded and chopped fine (see note) shopping list
- 2 to 3 cups beef or chicken stock shopping list
- 1/8 teaspoon dried thyme shopping list
- 1 dash ground ginger shopping list
- 1 dash garlic powder shopping list
- 1 dash ground cloves shopping list
- 1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne) shopping list
- 1/2 pound fresh prawns or jumbo shrimp, peeled, cleaned and deveined shopping list
How to make it
- Sprinkle fish lightly with salt and black pepper
- Heat oil in a medium stock pot
- Add fish and cook for 3 minutes on each side
- Carefully remove fish from pot and set aside
- Add chopped onion and habanero peppers to the pot
- Cook, stirring frequently, for 3 minutes
- Add stock, thyme, garlic,ginger, cloves and cayenne
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer 20 minutes
- Add fish and prawns and cook 10 minutes
- Serve immediately
- NOTE:
- Be sure to wear gloves when working with these extremely hot peppers. For milder flavor, use half of a pepper. Four peppers produces an extremely hot broth
