Ingredients

How to make it

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Generously butter bundt pan and dust with flour, knocking out excess.
  • Bring Guinness and molasses to a boil in a large saucepan and remove from heat.
  • Whisk in baking soda. Soda will cause the mixture to foam up. Cool mixture to room temperature.
  • Sift together flour, baking powder and spices in a large bowl.
  • Whisk together eggs and sugars separately from dry ingredients.
  • Whisk in oil with the eggs and sugar, then add molasses mixture.
  • Add wet ingredients to flour mixture and whisk until just combined.
  • Pour batter into bundt pan and rap pan sharply on counter to eliminate air bubbles.
  • Bake in middle of oven until a tester comes out with just a few moist crumbs adhering , about 50 minutes.
  • Cool cake in pan for five minutes. Turn out onto rack and cool completely.
  • Serve cake, dusted with confectioners sugar and/or with whipped cream. Gingerbread is better if made a day ahead of serving. It will keep three days, covered, at room temperature.

A cup. What is a cup exactly? Would anyone be kind enough to weigh a cup of flour and let me know what it weighs in either grams or ounces?
    Thanks again

    Hey, this looks like fun!
I live in France though I was born in Ireland. We have a special celebration here to celebrate the end of World War I and again World War II each year and the whole village is invited.
I was wondering what to bake that is Irish - recognisably so. I'll try your Guinness gingerbread and put the bottle beside it so they know it's the real thing.
Does any one have any other ideas for what I could make? It should be finger food. I'd like it to be Irish or definitely not French - just to bring a nice cultural element to what I bring.
    Great forum this!
    Greetings de la France!

I love the sound of this recipe & definately want to try it out. Problem though, you missed the flour in the ingredient list. Very easy I know with the long list of them. But I can see it's a 5 forker for sure.

Yeah. Believe it or not, the Guinness does not detract from the ginger flavor, just softens it!
