Ingredients

How to make it

  • Heat a non-stick skillet to medium high.
  • Cut out a round section in the center of a slice of bread (your choice)..
  • Melt the butter in the skillet and toast the bread in it on one side. See Photo
  • Turn the bread and crack an egg into the hole See Photo. Season with salt and ground pepper.
  • Cook with a cover until the white of the egg is to your liking. 5 minutes max..
  • Remove with a spatula and serve with bacon or sausage or ham or.....

    Hay Dugger: Good old southern comfort food. As A says; this just sorta slipped off the screen and it's time to bring it back. I used to do this with half an English Muffin. Thanks for the heads up and reminder. RJ

    All of this is done on the stovetop. Using a skillet and lid. If you like your eggs more cooked then you can do the same thing in the broiler. This is not my recipe, got it from a Food Network magazine. I love it but I will not take credit for it.
