Ingredients

How to make it

  • Cut steak into serving size pieces
  • Salt and pepper each piece as desired
  • Dredge meat in flour
  • Place in skillet in hot oil
  • Cook until browned on both sides
  • Remove meat from skillet
  • Add enough flour to make gravy
  • Add onion
  • Cook, stirring until flour has reached desired brown color
  • Add water, stirring to mix well
  • Add milk, stirring to combine
  • Return meat to skillet with gravy and simmer for one hour.

    I made this one night this past week and hubs took the leftovers to work. This is so "down home"!

    This recipe takes me back. We used to have this along with mashed potatoes, green beans(fresh from the garden),hot biscuits, and a great big slice of sweet potato pie for dessert. Getting hungry now!

    Thank-you for this great smothered steak recipe...

    Mashed potatoes,green beans,sliced red onions,homemade hot bread fresh out of the oven,buttered...and a big chunk of chocolate cake,with a tall glass of milk,to finish off.
