How to make it

  • Heat oven to 375.
  • Lightly fry chopped ham in butter, about 5 minutes.
  • Layer 1: potatoes, 2 Tablespoons ham, 2 Tablespoons onion, 1/8 tsp each oregano and thyme, small pinch each garlic salt and onion powder; Parmesan cheese.
  • Layer 2: potatoes, 2 Tablespoons ham, 2 Tablespoons onion, dash salt and pepper; Parmesan cheese; dot with butter.
  • Make 4-5 layers.
  • Pour evaporated milk to just below top layer.
  • Dot with butter if needed.
  • Cook, covered, for 1 hour; uncover and cook for another 15-30 minutes to brown. (Cooking times are approximate for your oven.)
