Zserbo Szelet - Gerbeaud Squares Recipe
This Hungarian dessert is what I grew up on and it has a very rich flavor that will send your mouth into overload.....its very very delicious.

Ingredients
  • 4 c. flour
  • 1 1/3 c. butter
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 cake yeast
  • 1/2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 c. sour cream
  • 1/2 lb. ground walnuts
  • 1 c. sugar
  • your favorite perserves

Directions
  1. combine walnuts and sugar...set aside
  2. sift flour and baking soda, 1 tbsp.sugar and salt together in a bowl.
  3. cut in butter as for pie crust
  4. add egg, egg yolks, crumbled yeast and sour cream...knead together well.
  5. divide dough into 4 pieces.
  6. roll 1 piece to fit a 12x14 inch pan
  7. place in bottom of pan
  8. spread a thin layer of preserves on dough
  9. sprinkle on 1/3 of nut mixture
  10. repeat layers, ending with dough for top
  11. let rise in warm place for 1 hour
  12. bake at 350 for 45 minutes
  13. cool and spread top layer with chocolate icing or melted chocolate.
  14. slice and serve.

Man, this sounds very differnt and outright scrumptious ! I'm gonna make this one,for sure ! Pie crust is one of my favorite things and this one has 4 of 'em ! lol !


Wow! sounds sooo delish!

Does the yeast "kick-in" without a warm liquid or does it magically work? (I am still virginal re yeast bread.)
