Cheyenne City Sandwich

- 3 cups buttermilk shopping list
- 2 eggs, well beaten shopping list
- 1 tsp baking soda shopping list
- 2 3/4 cup all purpose flour shopping list
- 1/4 cup sugar shopping list
- 2 tbs vegetable oil shopping list
- 1 tbs baking powder shopping list
- 1 1/2 tsp salt shopping list
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla shopping list
- 6 slices Polish ham shopping list
- 6 thick slices cooked turkey breast shopping list
- 6 slices cheese (Amercian, Meunster or Swiss) shopping list
- 12 thick slices egg bread shopping list
- 6 small metal or wooden skewers shopping list
- oil for deep frying shopping list
- jam shopping list
How to make it
- In a large mixing bowl, combine buttermilk, eggs and baking soda and blend well. Add next 6 ingredients and beat until smooth. Refrigerate at least 1 hour. (Any remaining batter can be used for pancakes.)
- To assemble each sandwich, layer 1 slice ham, turkey and cheese between 2 slices of bread. Quarter sandwiches and stack 4 quarters side by side, piercing through with skewer to hold sections together.
- Heat oil to 350 degrees. Dip each skewered sandwich into chilled batter, coating completely. Deep fry until golden brown, about 3 minutes on each side; do no crowd. Drain sandwiches briefly on paper towels. Serve with a dollop of jam on the side.
