Szalajda’s Cabbage, Pasta & Spinach Slop

- ¼ cup butter or margarine, divided shopping list
- 1 ½ pounds ham, diced in ½” cubes shopping list
- 1 medium Onion, sliced into half rings shopping list
- 1 small head green cabbage, chopped shopping list
- 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped shopping list
- ½ teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1/8 teaspoon pepper shopping list
- 1 tablespoon caraway seeds shopping list
- 1 cup sour cream (optional but highly recommended) shopping list
- 1 - 12 ounce package egg noodles or pasta of choice shopping list
- Optional garnishes: more Caraway seeds; diced chives or Green Onions; grated carrot; or grated parmesan cheese. shopping list
How to make it
- Melt half of the Butter in large pan.
- Add diced Ham and brown on all sides. Remove from pan and set aside.
- In same pan, melt remaining Butter.
- Add Onion and Cabbage. Cover, stir occasionally and sauté on a medium-high heat, 5 minutes or until crisp - tender. See Photo
- Add Spinach, sauté 5 more minutes.
- Stir in Caraway Seeds, Salt and Pepper to Cabbage mixture.
- During sautéing time, in a separate pan, cook Pasta as directed on package. Drain well.
- Stir Ham and Sour Cream into Cabbage mixture.
- Gently fold in Pasta to the mix.
- Cook 5 minutes longer, stirring frequently.
- Can garnish with ingredient(s) of choice. See Photo
- Good served with crusty bread and perhaps applesauce.
