Ingredients

How to make it

  • Combine oats, juice, and water in medium saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 20-25 minutes, without stirring.
  • Stir well and add salt, extract and milk/half and half to thin and continue to cook, as needed to reach desired consistency.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Spoon oatmeal into serving bowls and add chips and stir briefly. (many of the chips will melt)
  • Add a rounded teaspoon full of the fruit spread to each bowl, then gently "swirl" into the oatmeal just before serving.
  • ****PLEASE NOTE: ALWAYS CHECK YOUR OATS PACKAGING FOR LIQUID:OATS RATIO AND ADJUST, ACCORDINGLY. NOT ALL BRANDS ARE THE SAME :)

Mmm...this sounds good, Keni! Next time I have a sweet craving in the morning, I know what I'm making. For the record...I am also a big steel-cut oats fan ;)

No worries, Boo, there will be no fighting... I am just right on this one, steel cuts are better. ;) hehe..seriously, they are the same grain used for "rolled" oats, but they are less processed. They are the whole grain version, using the inside of the oat kernel and just cut up. They taste a lil nuttier and richer, and have a slightly different texture. I've loved oatmeal my whole life, but Irish oats, as they used to be called more commonly(before they got more popular ;) have always been my favorite. Thanks for asking!

Like this a lot keni. I'm a huge oatmeal guy. Though clearly rolled oats are far superior to steel cut :)
