How to make it

  • Meat
  • In large skillet, add olive oil and being to medium heat
  • Add onions and cook until tender
  • Add ground meat, break up and cook until done
  • Add rosemary, garlic, wine, tomato mixture, salt and pepper
  • Bring to boil combining all ingredients
  • Add bay leaves and submerge into mixture
  • Reduce to simmer and add lid
  • Simmer 30 minutes, stirring often
  • Remove bay leaves and set aside
  • Pasta
  • Cook pasta according to package directions but only until al dente
  • When pasta is done, drain and put back into pot
  • Add olive oil and combine
  • Let cool for a few minutes
  • Add beaten egg whites and cheese and mix to combine
  • Set aside
  • Sauce
  • Melt butter in large saucepan over medium heat
  • Add flour slowly, whisking to combine
  • Slowly add milk, whisking until combined
  • Remove from heat and add nutmeg, cheese and pepper
  • Whisk until completely combined
  • Assemble
  • Coat 2 1/2 qt. baking dish with olive oil
  • Add 2/3 pasta making sure not to leave empty spaces
  • Spread meat evenly over pasta
  • Top with remaining pasta
  • Pour sauce over pasta and evenly spread
  • Bake in preheated 350 oven, uncovered
  • Rest 30 minutes
