Ingredients

How to make it

  • Preheat the oven to 425F.
  • Add the flour, baking powder, spices, salt and sugar to a bowl and whisk together. Blend the cold butter in with a pastry blender (or pulse in a food processor) until it resembles small pebbles. Make a well in the flour.
  • Mix the pumpkin puree with milk and vanilla in the well and stir the flour in with a fork. The dough will be a little stiff, but if it seems too dry add a little more milk until the dough is just combined. (Careful to not over mix or work the dough too much) Turn it out onto a lightly floured counter bring the dough together with your hands and pat the dough into a circle ( I like the dough just over an inch thick.)
  • Cut the dough into 8 triangles.(cut the circle in half both directions, and each wedge in half again to make 8 equal pieces) Space them out onto a parchment lined baking sheet, and bake in the center of the oven for approx. 15-17 minutes or until golden brown on the bottoms and slightly golden on the tops. If you're unsure about doneness, check the center with a toothpick, it should be dry. Cool completely on a wire rack.
  • *If you're using dried cranberries, bake at 400F for approx.18-22 minutes (some ovens run hot, so use this method if your scones get too dark at 425F) **A high temp- quicker bake time yields a less dry scone than lower temp longer bake time**
  • For the glaze: mix the powdered sugar, spices, vanilla and 2 Tablespoons of milk to start with. Add a tsp of the leftover milk at a time until your desired consistency is reached. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled scones with a fork and enjoy!

I made these this morning. as they were baking my kitchen had a wonderful aroma.I have never made Scones before so i did not know what to expect.I followed the directions, only thing different was i used lactose free milk.I had one for breakfast and they are very good, they are a bit dense but that could be me, i could have over mixed. It does not take away from the taste which is delicious.
The flavor of the spices just pop in your mouth, lovely dunked in a cup of tea. Mine took 20 minutes to cook.
Thank you for sharing Shona, this will be made again.
