How to make it
- Preheat the oven to 425F.
- Add the flour, baking powder, spices, salt and sugar to a bowl and whisk together. Blend the cold butter in with a pastry blender (or pulse in a food processor) until it resembles small pebbles. Make a well in the flour.
- Mix the pumpkin puree with milk and vanilla in the well and stir the flour in with a fork. The dough will be a little stiff, but if it seems too dry add a little more milk until the dough is just combined. (Careful to not over mix or work the dough too much) Turn it out onto a lightly floured counter bring the dough together with your hands and pat the dough into a circle ( I like the dough just over an inch thick.)
- Cut the dough into 8 triangles.(cut the circle in half both directions, and each wedge in half again to make 8 equal pieces) Space them out onto a parchment lined baking sheet, and bake in the center of the oven for approx. 15-17 minutes or until golden brown on the bottoms and slightly golden on the tops. If you're unsure about doneness, check the center with a toothpick, it should be dry. Cool completely on a wire rack.
- *If you're using dried cranberries, bake at 400F for approx.18-22 minutes (some ovens run hot, so use this method if your scones get too dark at 425F) **A high temp- quicker bake time yields a less dry scone than lower temp longer bake time**
- For the glaze: mix the powdered sugar, spices, vanilla and 2 Tablespoons of milk to start with. Add a tsp of the leftover milk at a time until your desired consistency is reached. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled scones with a fork and enjoy!
