Pinto Beans

- 1 (16 oz) package dried pinto beans, washed and sorted shopping list
- 10 cups water, divided shopping list
- 1 onion, chopped shopping list
- 2 cloves, garlic, mashed shopping list
- 1 ham hock shopping list
- 1 teaspoon salt shopping list
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper shopping list
How to make it
- In a Dutch oven, combine beans and 6 cups water.
- Cover, and let stand 8 hours at room temperature.
- Drain beans, and return to Dutch oven.
- Add 4 cups water, onion, garlic, and ham hock to Dutch oven.
- Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer, covered 2 1/2 hours, or until beans are tender.
- Stir in salt and pepper.
