How to make it

  • If your electric skillet does not have a rack equip with one.
  • Scald 2-1/2 cups milk in top of a double boiler.
  • In a large bowl slightly beat eggs then add sugar, salt, vanilla and remaining milk and stir until sugar is dissolved.
  • Quickly and stirring rapidly add to scalded milk then pour immediately into 6 custard cups that have been warmed by rinsing in hot water.
  • Sprinkle with nutmeg then place cups on rack in skillet and pour 3 cups hot water and 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar around them.
  • Cover skillet and set control at 400 and bake 18 minutes.
