How to make it

  • Peel kabocha and cut into small pieces.
  • Steam until soft, about 25-30 minutes.
  • Add sugar, salt and cinnamon and mash well.
  • Mix flour, baking powder, and sugar into a bowl, add water and knead well.
  • Shape into fairly thin discs.
  • Put kabocha filling in the center of the dough and wrap it to make a ball.
  • Place dough balls in the steamer and cook 10 minutes.

Are you talking steamed buns (mantou)? The dough for these is given.

Do you have a recipe for the bread dough as well? I've been looking for an excuss to buy bamboo steamer for my sister and I, and this just looks too tasty.
    Please let me know!

I have never had this, but I have seen other recipes for this. You probably know about the baked manju sometimes with white bean, and in Okinawa it is with Purple Sweet Potatoes (yes, I capitalized it, because it is SPECIAL). This recipe of yours looks really good. Can't wait to try it. Keep eating!
