Ingredients

How to make it

  • Cream butter and sugar well
  • Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition
  • Add flour (sifted with salt) alternately with buttermilk
  • Add soda/hot water mixture
  • Beat well, add vanilla
  • Pour into greased and floured tube pan and bake 1 hour and 20 minutes at 300 degrees
  • The crust on this cake makes icing unnecessary

I made this pound cake and took it to NC with me. My friends devoured it. They ate it plain. Then added strawberries and melted chocolate and whipped cream. Best pound cake they ever ate. So now my husband wants me to make another one just for him!...

does anyone know if you have to adjust this for altitude???? I live at 7000' and it didn't rise fully, though was still tasty. I did not have a tube pan so used to loaf pans, which usually works out. Thanks all

    Hi Rose,

I was wondering if regular milk can be used for this recipe? I've never made a pound cake and wanted to try it out today, but I only have regular milk. If not, I guess I'll be making a trip to the grocery store! :)
    Thanks!

Yes, I love pound cakes, and this one sounds wonderful. I am interested in the crust part.
Everyone in my family, loves crusts on their
    pound cakes.
Using buttermilk is a little different as well.

I made this cake last night for Thanksgiving and it was delicious. It makes a nice crust and cooks up beautifully. The flavors blend well together and I love it just by itself.
