Chocolate Dessert Waffles

- 1/2 cup, 1 stick, butter shopping list
- 2 ounces, 2 squares, Hershey's® unsweetened baking chocolate shopping list
- 3/4 cup sugar shopping list
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract shopping list
- 2 eggs shopping list
- 1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda shopping list
- 1/2 cup buttermilk (If you don't have any on hand, make by adding 1 tablespoon white vinegar to 1 cup milk and let set 10 minutes) shopping list
- 1 cup chopped nuts, optional shopping list
- Topping: whipped cream, fresh strawberries, and/or ice cream shopping list
How to make it
- In a medium saucepan, over low heat, melt buter and chocolate.
- Add sugar and vanilla, stir until blended.
- Remove from heat, add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition until well blended.
- Stir together flour, cream of tartar and baking soda.
- Add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture.
- Stir in nuts, if using.
- Bake in waffle iron according to manufacturer's directions.
- Carefully remove waffle from iron.
- ***When you first remove the waffle it will be soft, but it will become crisp as it cools***
- Serve warm with topping of choice.
- Makes about 12 5-inch waffles.
