My mom makes this from memory, I managed to pry it out of her. It's an easy recipe, don't let working with yeast scare you.

Ingredients
  • 2 cups warm water (not hot)
  • 2 packages yeast (2 T bulk)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 tablespoons butter (let sit out until soft)
  • 1 egg
  • 6 1/2 cups bread flour
  • cinnamon-sugar mixture
  • Topping
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons water

Directions
  1. Mix water and yeast and wait 5 minutes.
  2. Stir in sugar, salt and 2 cups of flour.
  3. Add egg and butter and mix.
  4. Stir in rest of flour by hand, if dough is still sticky add just enough to make it not sticky anymore.
  5. Let raise until dough is double in size.
  6. Sprinkle flour on surface and roll dough out until is approx 18 X 12 inches.
  7. Spread a very thin layer of soft butter on dough and sprinkle cinnamon/sugar mixture on it.
  8. Roll dough from the long side, it should look like a log. Cut into 1 inch peices. Should be 18 pieces.
  9. Place brown sugar and butter into microwave dish and heat until butter is just melted. Stir well. Stir in 3 T water.
  10. Divid mixture into 3 pans, 8 inch cake pans.
  11. Place 6 pieces in each pan. Let raise for about 45 minutes.
  12. Bake for 20 minute in a 325 degree F. oven.
  13. When you take out of oven, turn each pan of rolls over on a plate, otherwise you will have a hard time getting them out when they cool. If you can, let them cool slightly and enjoy them when they are still warm.

Anyone reading this has to make these. Now. You won't be sorry. The dough is beautiful to work with. And the eating part, well that's just icing on the cake. These are THE best rolls, ever. If you've got someone you need to bribe--bring them a pan of these rolls, still warm. They'll do anything for you after that.

Mmmmm I will be in the kitchen Friday making these. I would make them sooner but I already made a list of Recipes to make for dinner and dessert from this site already.
