Grammas German Dish Recipe
This is the closest I could get to what my Gramma used to call "German Dish". Really it's a wonderful recipe for Beef Tips & Gravy served with egg noodes.

Ingredients
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil (or canola/peanut)
  • 3 tsp minced garlic
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 pkg dry brown gravy mix
  • 1 onion
  • 2 lbs cubed beef (stew meat)
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp liquid smoke
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 additional cup water

Directions
  1. Pound meat into 1/2" thinness and cut into bite-size pieces.
  2. Quarter half of the onion, and chop the other half.
  3. Add beef, onion and minced garlic to pan.
  4. Cook until meat looks "almost" burnt, onions are translucent and liquid is gone.
  5. Add Worcestershire sauce, 2 cups of water, soy sauce, Liquid Smoke, 2 tsp Garlic Powder, salt, pepper to skillet. (no need to drain the beef).
  6. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  7. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  8. MEANWHILE : Combine gravy packet with 1 cup water. Mix thoroughly and stir into skillet when the hour of simmering is up.
  9. Bring to a boil stirring frequently until thickened.
  10. Serve over egg noodles (or rice).

Sounds like the real deal to me. This brings back memories of when my mother made something very similiar for us growing up as kids. Sounds yummy.
