Crumpets

- 1 package active dry yeast shopping list
- 1 tespoon sugar shopping list
- 1/4 cup warm water, about 110° shopping list
- 1/3 cup milk, at room temperature shopping list
- 1 egg shopping list
- 4 tablespoons butter shopping list
- 1 cup all-purpose flour shopping list
- 1/2 teaspoon salt shopping list
- butter and/or jam for serving shopping list
- metal rings for cooking, or use tuna cans with the top and bottoms removed. shopping list
How to make it
- In a large bowl, stir together yeast, sugar and water.
- Let stand until bubbly, abot 5-15 minutes.
- Blend in milk, egg and 1 tablespoon of butter.
- Add flour and salt.
- Beat until smooth.
- Cover and let stand in warm place until almost doubled, about 45 minutes.
- Brush a heavy bottom frying pan or griddle with butter.
- Butter the inside of the metal rings.
- Heat the rings in the pan over low heat, pour about 3 tablespoons of batter into each ring.
- Cook until holes appear and tops are dry, about 7 minutes.
- Remove rings and turn crumpets to brown the other side lightly, about 2 minutes.
- Repeat with remaining batter.
- Serve warm.

Thanks so much for sharing this recipe. Being British myself, I love Crumpets. I have a recipe but I'm not too impressed with it so I can't wait to try yours. It sure got a '5' from me. Brianna
