How to make it

  • In a bowl, cram shortening and sugar.
  • Add egg; beat well.
  • Combine flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk and mix well.
  • Fill greased muffin cups half full.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes .
  • (Toothpick test them for doneness.)
  • In a shallow bowl, combine sugar and cinnamon,.
  • Dip muffin tops in butter, then in cinnamon-sugar.
  • Serve warm.

    These are so good! I had some cloves so I added that and some cinnamon in the batter with the nutmeg and used all 3 in the topping. I made them for an after school snack and they were a hit. Plus the house smells incredible. I'll be making these again! Thanks.
