This is an easy-to-prepare meal that can be cooked on an outdoor fire, grill or in the oven.
It's a meal all to itself.
I first had this sort of meal while on a camping trip and it was excellent, especially since I was starving!

Oh how cool! I thought my mom was the only one who made this. We had it all the time growing up. Thanks for the reminder!

I made this last night and I only had it on the grill(med. Heat) for 25 minutes and it burnt to a crisp. I know next time to watch it closer. IT looked yummy before it fried!~M

This brings back the Girl Scout cookout memories. I'll have to try it again this summer. It was always a fun meal and quite tasty as I recall.

I made these twice over the past weekend and they were good.
My current comments on this would be to make sure you add enough seasoning...go heavy.
Also, I added a bit more water and also put in some packaged gravy mix. This slightly thickened the juices but didn't make a thick gravy mix.
I also added an extra patty to some of the meals, which required more cooking time.
In the oven, you can turn the oven up to 400 and cook for an hour or so. We do like our veggies well done so they could have cooked even longer.
Make sure the packages don't leak moisture. Seal well.

I just wanted to add that I make the same thing but just layer it all in a casserole dish and bake for the same time listed. Just remember to add some oil or spray the bottom and sides really well or it will stick. Don't forget to cover with foil.
Also you can used canned stuff if you have it. We can a lot so we have them on hand and it works just the same as fresh. (canned carrots, canned potatoes-sliced)fresh onion slices

Another note: We made these on a friend's gas grill, with regular, not heavy duty foil.
I think the secret to keeping these dinners from burning to a crisp is to seal the packages well so no moisture can escape. Using regular foil might not seal as well. Ours were very scorched, however, it may have been the cook, because he had a higher flame, not low.
I like mine better, in the heavy duty foil, sealed like Fort Knox!

Some onion, mushrooms, and Worcestershire sauce would raise the bar. Yum.
