How to make it

  • bring the water to a boil. Mix the oats in the water and lower heat to a simmer. Cook the oats for 30 minutes. When done, divide the oats between two bowls.
  • Now come the fun. All of this is "to taste". I usually add a good pat of butter, a little bigger portion of cream cheese than butter, brown sugar to taste, LOTS of cinnamon and a teaspoon of vanilla. Mix it all up, and wolf it down cuz it's just that good!!!

Steel cut oats are labeled as such. They aren't the rolled oats that you typically see in the stores, they're in with the specialty grains, often in the organic section of the store.
Cream cheese!!! I can't wait to try this. I LOVE oatmeal and I LOVE cream cheese, I've just never had them together, wow! Thank you for a great post!

I have never liked oatmeal except in cookies but this sounds good. How do you know it is steel cut?
