Amish Chocolate Whoopie Pies Recipe
The serving size is a guess-timate because the amount that this recipe makes depends on the size of the cookie. This is just to die for. Don't let the steps fool you. It really isn't hard, but it is well worth the effort

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • filling:
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 Tbsp milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cup shortening
  • 4 Tbsp flour
  • 1 pound powdered sugar

Directions
  1. Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs. Add vanilla. Add milk along with dry ingredients.
  2. Bake 350 for 8-10 minutes. Cool.
  3. To make filling: beat egg whites until stiff. Add vanilla, flour and milk. Beat well and add shortening and sugar.
  4. Place cream filling between two cookies.
  5. Enjoy!!!

I love these but never had a recipe before. I'll try it and let you know how I do! Thanks for posting.


Here's a bit of trivia for you. If you look for these is Central Pennsylvania, ask for a GOB instead. Just one of our quirky localisms.

I use black cocoa that I purchase at a local amish store. This makes the chocolate ones even better. I haven't even touched my regular cocoa since I discovered the black cocoa.
