Ingredients
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 Tbs. butter
  • 2 Tbs. sugar
  • 2Tbs. salt
  • 2 Tbs. caraway seeds
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1 package quick-rising yeast
  • 6 cups all-purpose flour

Directions
  1. In a small sauce pan, heat milk,butter,sugar,salt,caraway seeds and water
  2. when butter is melted and sugar and salt dissolved, set pan aside to cool to 105F.
  3. when mixture is at 105F. pour into a heavy-duty mixer and add yeast, stir to disolve thoroughly
  4. add 5 cups of flour and mix on low until dough starts to pull away from side of bowl-about 10 minutes
  5. using dough hook, knead in remaining cup of flour, until dough is very smoth- about 5 minutes more
  6. cover and let rise until doubled-about 1 hour
  7. place on a cutting board and punch down
  8. for eachpretzel pinch off a golf ball size of dough and roll inti a snake about 10" long and form a pretzel
  9. place on a floured tes towl and allow to rise for 15 minutes
  10. preheat oven to 400F. while waiting bring 8 quarts of water to boil. place 5 pretzels in boiling water and boil till they float-about 5 minutes. remove with a slotted spoon and place on a greased baking sheet.when all have been boiled place in oven and bake till golden brown-about 20 - 25 minutes
  11. can freeze extras and heat in a 350F. or microwave
