How to make it

  • Soak bread in water for 10 minutes.
  • Squeeze out excess water.
  • Crumble.
  • In a large frying pan, heat oil and braise onion until golden - 7 minutes.
  • Add the gloves, garlic, salt, curry and turmeric.
  • Simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Break eggs into large bowl and beat lightly.
  • Mix inwith the mince aswell as the raisins.
  • Add the onion mixture + hot water, lemon juice, crumbled bread and sugar.
  • Mix well together.
  • Spoon into a well greased oven proof dish.
  • Bake for 40 minutes at 160 degreesC (320 degrees F) or until golden brown.
  • Remove.
  • Topping:
  • Combine egg and milk.
  • Mix well.
  • Pour over bobotie.
  • Arrange leaves as garnish.
  • Return to oven and bake for 10 minutes at 180 degrees or until topping is set.
  • Serve with rice or salad.
