German Sausage Apples And Red Cabbage Recipe

Ingredients
  • 4 T Bacon drippings
  • 2 T Sugar
  • 1 Onion, chopped
  • 4 C Red cabbage, shredded
  • 2 Green apples, sliced
  • 2 T vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp Caraway seeds
  • 6 Links German sausage
  • Stock, and/or red wine, optional
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Directions
  1. Heat drippings in a large skillet; add sugar and stir until browned.
  2. Add onion and cook slowly until golden.
  3. Add remaining ingredients laying sausage on top of the cabbage. Cook slowly 45 minutes to one hour. Add a little stock, and/or red wine as necessary to keep from sticking.
