Ingredients

How to make it

  • In skillet, fry bacon and put aside
  • Leave 2 tablespoons bacon grease in pan
  • Saute onions and peppers in bacon grease until soft
  • Add ham and stir
  • Saute on *low* heat for 20 minutes
  • Chop tomatoes
  • Add tomatoes and simmer for about 1 hour
  • Meanwhile crumble bacon
  • In separate pan cook about 2 cups grits according to directions
  • When grits are cooked, *May* add a little butter to grits, and stir ham mixture into grits
  • Pepper to taste
  • *May* add a little hot sauce
  • Pour into dish
  • Serve hot with bacon crumbled on top
  • Serves 10

    This sure sounds good. I've got a hubby who LOVES grits, and this would sure tickle his fancy as well as mine.

    Do you mean two cups dried grits, or two cups grits after they're cooked? I think I'll try this this morning since it's my hubby's birthday. He will sure be pleased!
