Ingredients
  • classic (TS) tuna salad
  • 2 (6 oz.) cans solid white meat tuna in water
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 cup minced celery
  • 2 Tbs. red onion-minced
  • 2 Tbs. minced parsley
  • 2Tbs. fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tbs. minced dill or sweet pickles
  • 1/2 cloves minced garlic
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 tsp. dijon mustard

Directions
  1. drain tuna ina collander and shred with fingers until no clumps remain
  2. pour tuna into a bowl and mix in lemon juice,salt,pepper,celery,onion,pickles,garlic and parsley until evenly blended
  3. fold in mustard and mayonnaise until tuna is evenly moisened
  4. makes about 2 cups/enough for 4 sandwiches-can be refrigerated for 3 days.
  5. TS with balsamic vinegar and grapes-------
  6. follow classic recipe omitting lemon,pickles,garlic and parsley
  7. add 2 Tbs. baslamic vinegar,1 cup of halved red seedless grapes,1/4 cup toasted slivered almonds and 2 tsp.minced thyme leafs
  8. curried TS with apple and currants----
  9. omit garlic,pickles and parsley
  10. add 1 medium firm juicy apple ,1/4" diced,(1 cup),1/4 cup currants and 2 Tbs minced fresh basil,mix 1 Tbs. curry powder with mayonnaise and fold in
  11. TS with lime and horseradish-----
  12. omit lemon,pickles and garlic. add 2 Tbs. lime juice,1/2 tsp. lime zest and 3 Tbs. horseradish
  13. TS with cauflower,jalapino and celantro
  14. omit pickles,garlic and parsley. add 1 cup coliflower florets cut in 1/2" pieces,2 Tbs.minced jalapino,1/4 cup minced scallions and 2 Tbs minced fresh cilantro

Me 'n canned tuna are good buds from way back, and the twist with the balsamic definitely caught my eye! Thanks! :-)


I like the little squirt of dijon for flavoring - sounds very good, and I do love tuna salad...always a favorite!

I just read this recipe the other day. It's from the America's Test Kitchen cookbook. They said mixing the seasonings in FIRST with the tuna, just like you have it listed, made an incredible difference rather than just adding it in with the mayo.
