Ingredients

How to make it

  • ~*Grits*~
  • Combine broth and butter in saucepan. Bring to a boil. Add grits and salt, stir well.
  • Reduce to low simmer. Stir often to be sure grits are not sticking. Slowly add milk, a little at a time - as needed, as grits begin to thicken. Cook for approx. 40 minuts, stirring often. When done cut in cream cheese and stir until well incorporated.
  • ~*Shrimp Sauce*~
  • Clean shrimp (defrost and rinse). Pour lemon juice over shrimp, toss and set aside.
  • Place bacon pieces in a large skillet, fry until crispy. Remove bacon and drain. Leave bacon grease in skillet.
  • Toss chopped onion and green peppers into bacon grease, cook until slightly softened.
  • Sprinkle flour over onion and green pepper, stir until vegetables are coated and flour is moistened.
  • Continue to cook for 1 - 2 minutes.
  • Add chicken broth, stirring well scraping bottom of pan until well incorporated.
  • Add seasoning, stir well.
  • Bring to boil then turn down heat to a low simmer.
  • Drain shrimp, stir into gravy, cook for 5 minutes if shrimp is raw - if using pre-cooked shrimp cook long enough to heat shrimp through, approx 2 - 3 minutes.
  • Serve over grits, garnish with green onions and bacon.

This is a wonderful recipe. I have made it several times now and it just gets better. I did add a little cheddar to the grits just because I always add cheddar to my grits. This is a classic Low Country recipe that has become my personal favorite. I would give you a 10 if I could!
    Thanks, Ferri
