How to make it

  • Combine beans, water, vegetables, ham, and seasonings in a stock pot; bring to a boil. Lower heat, cover and slowly simmer for two hours.
  • Add an additional two to four cups water. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for an additional two hours. Discard bay leaf before serving.

    I make mine very similar, and usually the day after b-b-q pork chops or loin.. that way in goes the leftover pork.. also keep ham hocks in the freezer for "just in case".. this is an awesome soup, I grew up on it.. mom being southern, we had some great soups.. thanks
